Recently my kids (AA exec Plat) were traveling ICN-NRT (Japan Airlines).

I (AA exec Plat) was traveling on Korean Airlines to a different place.

Should my kids have been able to invite me into the lounge as their guest?

(I sent in my kids in by themselves :) )

No. Guests are only allowed under oneworld rules when the guests are also travelling on a OW marketed and operated flight. http://www.oneworld.com/ow/ffp/lounge-access

The only exceptions to this are FFP specific rules like QF allowing guests of QF Platinums into domestic lounges which do not need to be traveling at all.

Recently had the same issue in HKG (I am AAExP)...guest (me) not allowed unless travelling on OW itinerary...However, I threatened to allow my children (who have status) in without me but with only my wife supervising them....(3 young children, 1 adult to control them) and I pointed out some likely problems with this arrangement....and they allowed me in anyway ;) Best of luck....
