I just took a couple of ANA transpacs in C on 777s. I was unable to use my laptop AC adapter (standard IBM/Lenovo laptop) - it tripped the circuit breaker every which way I tried (and I tried a couple of different seats to make sure I did not have a faulty power source). Even charging with the laptop off did not work.

This is the first time I had this issue. I did notice that few PAX were using their laptops so this might not be an uncommon issue.

The crew offered to lend me chargers ANA carries on board. The list of supported models started in the mid-90s, the most recent model I found supported (either IBM or Apple) dated to 2002. That is of course close to useless.

Why does ANA seem to make using the power ports near impossible for laptop usage?

Got the same problem both ways on NRT-CDG a couple of months ago (on a 77W).
Didn't work neither on my seat nor on the one next to me.
One F/A told me this is happeneing quite frequently. Never had this problem before on the 744.

Had this happen before, I use a macbook pro. I had to do this, and you most likely have to as well, you have to take the battery out of the computer. Otherwise the circuit breaker trips.

If you had the battery out and it was still tripping, than I don't know. However, when I've done that I've never had a problem.

Been having issues as well. Seems like the juice that the power draws is not enough to charge and power the computer. I had a huge project to present when I landed in Tokyo once, and after I plugged the laptop in virtually the entire flight, when I got on the Narita express, the power was at like 5%!!!
