Other Asian, Australian and South Pacific Frequent Flyer Programs - Eva elite/deluxe power outlet: 2 or 3 prong?
Kind of a random question.
I'm flying SFO-TPE on EVA, on what is currently listed as an 777-300, in an Elite class seat. I understand that this seat has an AC power port. Does anybody know whether this port is a 3-prong (grounded) outlet, or a 2-prong ungrounded outlet?
I'm asking because my laptop has a 3-prong cord...
Thanks in advance!

3 prong! This is the kind of socket: http://www.astronicsaes.com/AES/documents/products/EmPower/Outlet_Unit.pdf
The location varies depending on the seat, but there is indeed one per seat in PL and Elite. The sockets are current-limited. Modern laptops (centrino types) are OK. If you have an old one (eg celeron) you might have trouble..
Sometimes they don't work when you first plug in. If so, unplug, wait a few seconds and try again. There is a light to indicate there is power to the socket.
Excellent! Thanks for the information!

As an aside, I always bring a 3->2 prong adapter on trips to Asia.
No issue in a modern western hotel (or a plane), but one never knows where you might wind up.
Come to think of it, I might just yank the ground plug on my laptop/netbook power bricks. I've run far less safe power in the lab quite often.

Only semi relavent I suppose, but most outlets in homes that I've been in (parents are taiwanese and been back several times over the years) are 2 prong. So I'd bring a cheaper plug regardless.

If you get caught out, 7-ELEVENs (or similar, everywhere in Taiwan) sell adapters which allow you to stick three pronged plugs into two pronged sockets. Great for plugging in those devices with their pesky earthing requirements...
