On flight to ACC yesterday, no hot towels in WBC, only small packaged towelettes. I asked the crew member why no hot towels. She said it was a temporary measure to prevent spread of swine flue. Anyone out there with the knowledge to to know if this is a genuine measure or is it just another of those small irritating cutbacks. Otherwise, flight service was good. I actually prefer KLM WBC to ACC over LH and BA for pricing, scheduling and crew attitudes.

I've been given so many hot towels today on KQ flights that I can only hope I will survive till midnight.

This whole swine flu thing is getting rather silly.

On flights to NBO they hand you a comprehensive questionnaire that concludes with advice on which medical specialists to contact should you cough more than once a month, and that in a country that cannot even provide adequate medical care for the vast majority of its population.

In JNB they have installed a thermal imaging camera at passport control. When I arrived last month, they guy operating it was half asleep, with a woollen beanie almost pulled down over his eyes.

A few weeks ago, arriving from NBO, it was apparently only necessary to scan the minority of pax with non-African passports!

On a domestic flight in SA, we were all instructed immediately after boarding to fully open all air vents, "to improve the circulation of air through the cabin" (and presumably the circulation of germs as well!).

On the JNB thermal imaging: I've also noticed that on the last couple of flights coming into SA. Not sure I got scanned every time - I typically travel with glasses instead of contact lenzes, but was only asked to remove the glasses for the thermal scan once (mid-September)... Also, don't recall seeing a thermal imaging queue for the SA or African passport holders - but that might just have been me not paying attention.
