Other Credit Card Programs - Advise needed any good visa travel card (hotel and car rentals)View Full Version : Advise needed any good visa travel card (hotel and car rentals) kay_jay Oct 17, 09, 1:02 am I am not particularly interested in the airlines miles, eventhough I air travel a lot mia Oct 17, 09, 8:34 am Sorry, but I do not understand your objective. I do understand that when you travel on business your airline tickets are paid with your company credit card. However, I assume that your leisure travel (e.g. vacation) is not paid by your employer, and that you could benefit from earning airline miles to redeem for those trips? If you have several credit cards and each accumulates points or miles in a different program you are likely to end up with a modest amount in each, but not enough to claim a meaningful award. If you are interested, it could be beneficial to list the cards you already use, the approximate amount you spend on personal cards per year, and the types of awards you would like to claim. deltame Oct 17, 09, 10:57 am Some airline/hotel co-branded credit cards include lounge access, EQM and/or hotel/car-rental elite status benefits. For example, if you happen to fly CO and eat at airport restaurants a lot, then the CO presidential card might be worth carrying (for its built-in benefits, not necessary the spend on the card). If your spend on restaurants is significant, then Citibank's Forward card (its a visa) would be worth looking into, e.g. 5% rewards back in thank you points (1 TYP ~ 1 cent). On the other hand, cash is king. You might do better by going with Schwab 2% cash rewards card (it is a visa) for all spending. jeelele Oct 17, 09, 11:32 am It would help to know answers to following questions: What airline(s) do you fly the most? Also, with what airline do you already earn miles and with which airline do you have the most balance? Also, what airline would be easiest to fly on from you home airport? What airline do you prefer the most? It makes no sense to get a card with an airline that you have virtually no mileage balance as compared to another airline where you already have some balance. Also, it makes better sense to accumalate miles on airline that serve your purpose. With the limited information that you have provided, its rather difficult to guide you in the right direction. Happy Oct 17, 09, 8:06 pm Unfortunately, there is not a single Visa card that would earn points in all the hotels you stay. You either earn hotel points on its affiliate card at a favorable earning rate, such as HHonor AMEX or HHonor Visa offered by Citi, Chase Marriott Reward, or SPG AMEX - none of them seems what you are looking for. Basically, other than AMEX Membership Reward or SPG, all other hotel points / airline miles can only be earned if via spending, thru the affiliate cards Or you dont earn hotel points in particular and use a generic Visa card but earn a good cash rebate such as the Schwab Visa mentioned. In this case, you are not earning any hotel points or miles, but you are earning cash at a 2% rate. kay_jay Nov 7, 09, 5:24 pm It would help to know answers to following questions: What airline(s) do you fly the most? = Southwest & AA.
