A funny thread so far. The title, "crash in BKK" could have a very different meaning, let's not hope that happens.
BarryJS, I think perhaps you meant "<$30", not ">$30"?
TGFlyer, the OP is arriving at midnight so the dayrates at the Novotel will be of no use.
To answer the question, there are no *G lounges open overnight. The TG lounges close up around 0100 and don't open again till 0500. If you have a Priority Pass card there is a 24 hour Louis Tavern First Class Lounge on concourse G that you could use except that you'll need an onward boarding pass or ticket to pass security, which you obviously won't have being you're staying in Bangkok for more than 24 hours. Likewise there are the Louis Tavern dayrooms in the airport, but the same security checkpoint will prevent you from accessing them, plus they're quite expensive for what you get.
The best thing to do would be to head into the city and get a cheap room for the time you want to spend. I'm a bit picky about not really liking to stay in the lowest end places and would often rather do without a room if possible, but I've found decent clean places for 1,000 THB and under in the city. Alternately there are similar priced hotels nearby BKK that you could stay at if you wanted to, though I don't see the need. After midnight traffic isn't an issue getting into the city and there won't be that much of a time difference. Being you're staying in Bangkok anyways, staying at/near the airport doesn't seem to make any sense to me.

20 minutes from the airport and 200 baht in a taxi will get you to the Accor affiliated All Seasons Huamark on Ramkhamhaeng Rd, you should be able to get a room for about 600-800baht. www.accorhotels.com

Try Ibis Sathorn or Ibis Nana. Room should be less than 30$++ online.

this comes from lower-budget aim traveller sites and hope the given sites are correct-if not google!
for hotels quite near to swampy-with budget prices, often incl,. transits and a pool etc:
backpackthailand.com
decent enough rooms from 600 THb (or about 12€/20US$), a mere 10 min taxiride away, mostly along that long road north of airport-check reviews-some may suffer from too much (airplane!) noise.
any really low-budget bekpek-style traveller knows the KhaoSarn area-dirt cheap rooms, not all that great, but they are moving upscale. But a taxi will cost you 250/300 THb both ways-no bus after 24.00. Sites like khaosanroad, khaosanroader or travelfish list dozens-and thats still less as half of the actual existing places. all-well nearly all-open 24 hrs and are also very well sued to late comers and very early goers.

I am arriving in BKK at midnight and I don't want to have to pay for an extra night at a hotel........but will not be leaving BKK the same day (I am leaving two days later).
Not sure I'm getting this here.
Are you looking for somewhere in between flights for a few hours at a cheaper cost than an (already cheap) hotel in Bangkok, or are you seriously wanting to stay in the airport for two days without using a Hotel ?.

Yes, that is what I meant!
There are plenty of good hotels in the 1000b a night range. I like staying at the Imm Fusion at On Nut. usually 1100 a night and very comfortable. Getting to the airport from there would be a challenge to the driver, but it's not far and there's plenty of places to eat and a big Tesco nearby.
In town around the Nana area, there are loads of more than adequate hotels in the same price bracket.
So that's about 600b return cab fares, 1000b a night hotel, 500b for beer, 3000b for 'entertainment' and 700 airport tax... and none of it wasted...

As I mentioned before, The All Seasons Huamark, from Accor Hotels, is ideally located for transit pax, it was an Ibis when it first opened, you are RIGHT next door to a shopping mall, Mcdonalds, cinemas. There is 0 tolls on the taxi ride, and only about 800 metres of traffic to deal with when you hit Ramkhamhaeng rd. It is 20 to 25 mins from taxi rank to check-in. Taxi fare 230 baht including airport fee, and 170-180 baht back to airport. Price is about USD25 a night! Rooms are small but its reasonably modern.

Hi muc2asia, if you are travelling TG in C,J, or D and First too, THAI airways will give you a free night in Bangkok at the likes of the Sheraton Grande, the only proviso is that you have to buy and pay for your own breakie, regards bkkrop

I think we're all a bit confused about what exactly the OP wants, so difficult to answer without further input. But the comment, "I don't want to have to pay for an extra night at a hotel." led me to believe that the OP will be staying at a hotel in Bangkok but didn't want to pay for another night. So I think it's probably much better to simply get a cheap room nearby the area where he/she will be staying rather than going one way to a hotel near the airport and then possibly having to backtrack again in the morning to transfer to a different hotel.

mmm dude ure heading to bkk, it's all cheap!
catch one of the busses thats heading to kahosan road, and sleep somewhere for 7 bucks a night if ure not too fussy about sleeping in a single bedroom with private/common shower.
then ure in the right place
but u could allways be a bit picky and pay a bit more for a mid-end hotel with good facility
was trying to figure out if ure trying to grab a nap for 8 hours or ure actually staying for 2 day, anyhow, you could always sleep in the airport, make sure to wear something warm - it gets really cold around 4-5 am, take it from someone who had slept there for 2 nights haha
