I'm going to give KE Prestige Class a try for my trip to CGK in December. The special fare my TA gave me for YYZ-ICN-CGK roundtrip is just too good to pass up on and did my booking last week. Even with the long layover in ICN on both directions and adding the cost of a transit hotel on the outbound and a DMZ tour on the return is still one heck of a deal I'm getting even though I won't be getting the mileages as I have no account with Skyteam. All flights scheduled to be operated by 772ER and according to what I have researched I'll be getting the Prestige Plus seating for 3 out of the 4 sectors. And to my suprise, the one sector (CGK-ICN) where I won't be getting that seat, is equipped with the Prestige Sleeper. Surprising in that I didn't expect a route like CGK to be getting the best long haul business seat being offered.
Anyhow, I would like to ask how flexible is KE in terms of meal schedule? For onboard dining, I will follow the crew's meal service schedule for the first three sectors. But for my last and final sector (ICN-YYZ), I'm wondering is it possible for my first meal to be served few hours later than the time the crew is scheduled to serve them to the other passengers. Since this sector is an evening ICN departure and evening YYZ arrival I would like to sleep the first 4-5 hours of the flight and then remain awake during the remaining 7-8 hours as I want to be tired enough to be able to sleep at normal time when I arrive home in YYZ. Hence my question is will the crews be flexible in warming up my dinner and serving it to me 3 hours later after they had already served it to other passengers? Or do I have to have it at the same time everyone is having it which is usually 2 hours after takeoff? I'm a regular flyer with CX and in F or J they usually have no problems serving it to me at a time when other people are sleeping or not eating when I decided to have it at a different time from everyone else. So it'll be great if the KE crews can do this for me 5 hours after takeoff as oppose to 2 hours.
Also as I mentioned earlier, I will be taking a DMZ tour on the return journey between my 6:50 am arrival from CGK and my 8:55 pm departure to YYZ. However since the tour that departs from the airport does not take you to the Joint Security Area, I have decided to take the tour that departs from a hotel in town (Lotte) that includes the JSA. So I'll be taking the limousine bus to town before hopping on the tour bus. IMO a trip to the DMZ would be incomplete without the JSA. But since I've never been there (nor the DMZ itself), I'm curious about a couple of thing. At the JSA there are these so-called conference rooms where the tour guide will be taking you in. The border between the South and North from what I have heard actually bisects through these rooms dividing the room also into a South/North section. But looking through videos people have posted on their visits, people can actually roam freely while they are in these conference rooms. So this means one can actually cross the border into North Korea while inside the facility? Is that true? Also for those who has been to the JSA, how does it feel to witness live in such close distance from yourself soldiers facing off against enemy? Is it a feeling of thrill, frightening, or indifferent?
Thanks!
