Avis - Costa Rica - LIR

Anyone rented in Costa Rica lately.

From what I understand, I will get hit with the Government Mandated Liability.
Anyone know cost?

There is here in one of these rental car threads (sorry, don't remember which one), sometime back (last year?), a post from an individual living in Costa Rica that stated this "mandated" fee is, in fact, NOT mandated, at least against renters. From what I seem to recall, he further stated that it's some sort of a fee assessed directly against the car companies themselves, which then pass it on to renters by implying it's a "mandatory" fee.

Not sure if all this is correct but, with his living in CR, I'm not one to refute his statements. I've rented there on four occasions and have paid this fee.
