In a today's long interview ("La Stampa" of Turin) to Mr Sabelli, the CEO's Alitalia, among other things, refers they will add soon a new direct MXP-MIA flight.

Although not the 1st time AZ speaks about this route, that "presto" (= soon in english) he uses let me think we are probably closer than ever to its launch.

Let's wait and see, once again....

Is that AZ has been reinstates nonstop from MXP-MIA? I didn't see it before. I remember where AZ flies out MXP-MIA nonstop from couple years ago but, it was being discontinuation due to losing the financial problems.

AZ 636/637 MXP-MIA-MXP will be probably restored by next summer with 3 weekly flights (1..4.6.). Till June with 763, by July with A330. At a later time the whole AZ's long-haul operation from MXP should be with A-330 (MIA, JFK, NRT....with GRU probably axed).
In any case, still need confirmation.

One of the reasons for its resumption may be the incentive offered by MIA authority.

MIA’s study of Italian market potential found three initial weekly A330, or equivalent, roundtrip passenger frequencies from Milan supplementing newly operating daily Rome-Miami service would be viable. Former Milan-only service handled over 157,000 roundtrip passengers during 2007. Qualifies for MIA Air Service Incentive (1).

Service is resuming at the end of March, it will be the same AZ 636/637 numbers, and will operate MoThSa. However, MXP-GRU is gone.
