My brother is going to Charlotte on business and will be back and forth 4 times renting a car for 4-5 days. Avis had a promotion where if you rented a car for 4 days or more you'd get 5000 Delta Skymiles. It said it was good until December 31 however its been replaced with a 1500 mile promo. He booked his first reservation and used the code. He still has the promo code can he use it and get his 5000 miles? Or its gone with no notice and thats that.

I just looked on Delta's site ... the promo is no longer there ... sad. I've used this promo for the past 6 months and have gotten nearly 100,000 miles out of it. It was great while it lasted. Although, why was it ended early? Don't you think they have an obligation to honor it through Dec 31?

I noticed not only the same thing, but also that a lot of other Avis promos with other airlines that were originally said through 31 Dec 09 had also been withdrawn and replaced with promos that give much fewer miles and/or are more expensive (requiring GPS rental). I was looking at an archived message filled with car bonuses from this year, from elsewhere on FT, and was trying to see if another airline I collect with had something better than the remaining 1500 DL bonus, and they would have had, had they all not been simlarly withdrawn or changed to require GPS!
By coincidence (with the details of the OP), I realized this a few days ago as I was booking a 6-day reservation for a rental at Charlotte! I was annoyed, but I wanted something that would post, not something dubious that I'd have to fight (and maybe find out in the end I'd get nothing at all), and so I went with the official 1500 miles DL bonus.
(I didn't see this thread until just now, half a day into said rental.)

This is definitely deja vu all over again. But I remember it being the Budget/DL one. Actually, this happened with a couple of DL rental car "year end" partner promotions. We keep swearing that we won't do it again. Then we do. The lesson, if we are going to keep doing it, and they are going to keep doing it, is to print the promo/portal page. It was my sole salvation in two cases, last year.
heffa, what you've contributed here is huge. Thank you very much.
:-::-::-:
I really thought DL would have learned their lesson, last year. That was awful. This is just reprehensible. I'm ready to say that the VP in charge of this is a slimeball.

Not only is there this problem with the Delta/Avis 5K bonus, but Avis' corporate partner Budget also had a Delta promo (maybe 3K? but for shorter stays) and that has disappeared too. I don't see anything more than the 50 points/day!
This is distressing...I have several 3-4 day rentals coming up on Avis - in fact, I'm in the middle of a 3-day rental now. I have no idea what I'll get for this rental since I have the old 3-day (MUAA132) code on it, and no idea what to do for the coming weeks.

This is popping up on threads right and left it seems.
I called Avis a couple of days ago when the URL stopped working and the CSR told me that MUAA133 and 132 are good through Dec 31.
Also, the Budget 3K for 1-day URL is still working as of today:
Well, OK, Evan! You're right. I just booked an Avis car with the DL K8176000 and MUAA133. (Not through the portal, but starting with my Avis First account.) It went through. No discount, but I'll cross my fingers that the SkyMiles post *spontaneously*.

I return one tonight. I will report back what the receipt says. Last week there was no one in the garage. So I got a paper printout from the counter but that doesn't show the number of miles earned the way the hand-held processsing machines do.

I'm concerned about this too. I just turned in a 3-day rental and saw the 2650 miles on the slip, but seeing the above I checked my account and saw my last posting was 9-21 - nothing from last week. Still, the 1-week post is very hit-or-miss; could very well post later. Usually whatever I see on the slip has shown up sooner or later.
Still, this has me anxious about what to do about a rental starting Sunday night - 5 days so unsure whether to leave it on the existing coupon trying for the big 5K bonus again or settle for the inferior but seemingly sure 1.5K.
I saw in another thread on the Budget site that an Avis rep said this would still work; I'm pretty sure that was from Evan!

Hmmm...has anyone seen any of these new Delta bonus miles post? I've actually got 12,500 in 3 bonuses outstanding (plus the 50/day to get there) that have not posted going back to late September, 9/29 I think. I am on a new 5-day Avis rental now, and of course hoping to still end up with that big 5500.
I'm not pushing any panic buttons because it's not like just the small 150 and 200 mile per-day awards have posted without the bonuses; instead, I'm guessing that this has more to do with the systems integration. I hear the system is now the old NWA system - maybe that's the issue since I remember hearing that they were sometimes slow. But if someone else's bonus miles were posting I'd be wondering what was up with mine.
I'll feel better when I see at least one of these go through.

So far this year I have had 135,500 miles post to my Delta account for this promotion (MUAA132 & MUAA133). My last posting date was Oct 4 for 5,500. That rental ended on Sep 26.
I was expecting more posts on the 10th. The 10th and 17th have passed without any postings but I'm not really worried. I suspect Avis is in the process of buying another chunk of miles from Delta. Typically this year the posting cycles have been on or about the 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th.

I can't remember a time when Avis bonus miles posted on a different day than the base miles. I too just got the base of 500 without a posting for the 5K bonus. Also, since Delta has changed the way they note the entry it is not possible to distinguish for which rental this 500 miles applies. I love how the information goes backwards as technology moves forward.

DL a/o Avis: Oh, well now I see it. You got the miles on Oct 4.

Ah, this is not so good. I too have been waiting for 4 weeks with bonuses (2 x 5K, 2 x 2500), and I've actually been comforted that the regular miles haven't posted either, making me figure that the whole system was just gummed up. Now I've seen my first "standard miles" from way back in Sept, with no bonus miles, with a posting date of 10/14 (but just appearing last night). Ominous.
I know they never posted the standard and bonus miles separately before, but it seems we're now dealing more with the old NWA engine. Does anyone know if they always posted the standard and base miles together? It seems, from my little experience with NWA, that people thought their system was more transparent but very slow...

I just called Avis about the same problem: booked an 8-day rental with the coupon, however, the receipt says "500 miles earned" (and I still haven't got a single one on my DL account...).
The thing that, ahem, surprised me the most - was Avis CSR response (her name is Elisa, btw). She told me that she "doesn't know" why the coupon was not fully honoured. Because - sic! - she is not "a programmer", and cannot be held responsible for how their system calculates the bonus miles.
Hurrah! The ultimate answer to all customer complaints has been finally found! Blame everything to system "glitches". Got overcharged? It's a "system problem". I mean, not that they haven't used this technique before - but in the past they would at least promise to take a look into the problem. Not any more! (and, yes, I'm dead serious, Elisa actually told me she would not try investigate it). The system's decision is final - even if it makes no sense at all!
I know I'm not the only one who's sick & tired of Avis... And, let's be honest, we don't have much of a choice... But, don't ya'll think it's time to demand some action from regulatory bodies?!!!

I feel for ya and do not like her (Avis' attitude) here. Honestly, we do have a choice... other rental car agencies. One good note is that I have had very linttle problems with miles from Avis for almost 2 years now. When it works it works well. Here is a question for perepelov, what AWD code did you use in conjunction with MUAA133? I ask because the farmers code that many (and me) used in the past stopped being such a great code when the rules for the code disallowed ANY earnings of miles. This was something that was not indicated at the time of booking. Is there a chance you only see 500 miles earned because the AWD you used doesn't allow for miles? or maybe it changed like the farmers code?
Here is a correspondence I sent Avis this morning via avis.com:
I had had many rentals this year using coupon code MUAA133. This coupon is good until Dec 31, 2009 and earns one a 5000 Delta SkyMiles bonus for a 4-day or longer rental. Recently I had three rentals with only the base miles of 500 each posting to my Delta SkyMiles account. Usually the base miles of 500 AND the bonus miles of 5000 would post on the same day. I confirmed with Avis via the phone that promotion is still good through Dec 31.
The confirmation numbers of the three recent rentals are:
Boston - xxxxxxxxxxx
Ft. Lauderdale - xxxxxxxxxxx
and Ft. Lauderdale - xxxxxxxxxxx.
Thank you in advance for your time in this matter.
I'll let everyone know when (if) they reply.

Check your AWD Number that you used. It has to be a problem with that. A friend of mine used to work for Bearing Point and he tried renting a couple of times from Avis and Avis would not give him the Bonus. Apparently the AWD was the problem.
In my case, I returned my car on the 15th (I had it from 5th to 15th Oct) and the Receipt showed 5500 miles correctly. In the last few days Avis posted the miles to my acct but only 500 were posted. I wrote an email to Customer Service and promptly got a reply back saying that the remaining will be posted soon. Its weird that they did not get post at the same time, but I guess this is their new system problem.

Well, Evan!'s news is pretty encouraging...I'm in the same boat with receipts with the bonus but only the base miles posting. I was getting ready to lose faith and try just the new, lower-value coupon for next week's rental, but Avis does keep accepting the coupons, giving me receipts with the bonus and apparently intenting to pay them.
So I guess I'm going to keep hoping it's all going to work out in the end and using the higher-value (2.5K/5K) coupons. I sure will feel better when I see some bonuses hit the statement.

As we all know, the base and bonus typically post at the same time. I called Avis about my missing bonuses yesterday. She looked at the transactions they sent to Delta and said that there were base transactions, but also bonus transactions, each sent on the same day. The bonus didn't post yet, but she did verify that they were sent, and they are seperate "line items" or transactions.
Sounds good to me as long as it posts!

Great. This pretty much cinches it for me - email and phone consensus. Avis has not changed in posting bonuses at the same time as base miles. The change clearly lies with Delta/NW. I say "Delta/NW" because of the Oct 1 integration of the two systems. I can't see this being coincidence.

It's too soon to tell but I think the days of postings on the 3rd, 10th, 17th, etc are over - at least consistent postings on those dates. I think we might see a pattern on base miles but bonuses might be credited via sweeps (batch processing) and right now its been too soon since Oct 1 to see a real pattern for when the bonuses should be expected.
I've had the following activity recently:
Rental end | base post to DL | bonus post to DL
10/2 | 10/25 | 10/29
10/9 | 10/27 | 10/29

1) one 3 day rental from 10/25, only 150 base miles posted, still no 2500 bonus.. on my Avis receipt, says 2650 miles earned.
2) one 4 day rental from 11/2, only 200 base miles posted, still no 5000 bonus... on my Avis receipt, says 5200 miles earned.
3) one 4 day rental from 11/9, 200 miles posted and 5000 bonus miles posted on the same day (Nov 19th), Avis receipt says 5200 miles earned
I guess I may need to give Delta a call... I just hate doing it in the event I get the runaround (I had similar difficulties with United in the past last year when they had the 1500 bonus miles for a 4 day rental.. Avis said they did all they could (base+ bonus appeared on receipt), yet United only posted the base.. I gave up and switched to earning miles on Delta...)

update on my end, but I'm now confused since my most recent rental had both base and bonus post.

While I don't want to discourage you from contacting Delta I would like to prepare you for what you might hear. Delta is overwhelmed right now with CS issues. Everything from the Amex double miles not posting, Million Miler gift problems, Amex MQM reserve errors, the list goes on and on. I'm not apologizing for them. They created this mess and are actually claiming to the media that the merger is going well. Really?
So I suspect what you will first hear from Delta is "Contact Avis". When you respond that Avis has hit the ball back into Delta's court then they will spout the omnipresent "6 to 8 weeks" spiel. If you happen to have any other Avis postings that are showing on your account from Avis, be prepared to hear "I see where you got the miles on September 9 [tone: you idiot]" even though you just told them that these were for Oct and Nov rentals.
The entries on my SkyMiles account are so vague now it is laughable. The car rental postings for Budget and Avis do not even cite the location as they did before. The posting date will be noted not as the date the miles posted but rather the date of the rental pick-up with the same exact date in parentheses at the end of the detail entry. I just got a Budget 3K bonus today, Nov 18. It is dated Nov 7 on my SkyMiles account.
For me I foresee tracking my missing bonus to be a real hassle because I do have lots and lots of 5K bonuses from Avis. So proving to Avis and Delta that one 5K bonus out of a dozen or so recent 5K bonuses is missing will probably not be easy.

I agree with you. I know that I'm missing bonus miles, but tracking them down is too time consuming for me. Delta will continue making money with their Skymiles program and we will see many more bonus miles programs. They, however, will also continue with their poor customer service.

Evan!, thank you again. As always, you provide a welcome context. I had not thought of the impact of the merger. But I continue to think that, like I said last year, DL has one person on this. Or not many more. It has all the earmarks of not staffing up, or if they do, it's with temps who don't get all the intricacies -- not that there are many, in our view.
It's especially irritating this year, because they had to have been seared by last year's experience -- what with the uptake, then our massive followup, then our followup with the Better Business Bureau.

I have rented 5 weeks of 4/5 day rentals with this promo and only rec 1 5K bonus. Should I call Avis or Delta? I think I will be heading back to Enterprise as they are more prompt in positng the 2 for 1 free bonuses. Can't stand dealing with CS.

Hello hotelfanatic:
Yes, it sounds like they got "lost in the mail," because I'm not seeing long enough delays that you could be 4-5 weeks out without more than one posting. For all the reasons described by Evan! above, notably the lack of consistency in time and the vague descriptions, the process is not very transparent but in general I think I'm seeing base miles post in 10 day - 2 weeks and the bonuses about a week later. If it's much older than that, it's maybe time to start worrying, or I would be anyway.
But whether they are geared up to help you I do not know. Probably start with Avis since they are not in mid-merge and seem to be replying to people.

If you contact AVIS, they'll tell you that miles post within 90 days and since it hasnt been 90 days to STFU... well they say it nicer than that :)

I too am seeing a bonus on my most recent rental but no bonus on the previous one. And all of them have said 5500 miles on the Avis receipt. And each one seems slower to post than the previous one...

IMHO it is the Avis receipt showing the 5500 that is the key document here; personally i've had no problem with this promo other than slow postings; first the base miles then the bonus and yeah there is the date issue but I really don't care what date that they put down so I haven't said anything. Knock on wood I guess; keep the promo rolling in 2010.. *fingers crossed*
