I'm going to be in Saigon for a bit over 48 hours. Any recommendations on sightseeing that are must sees? Looking particularly for beautiful scenery and/or buildings.
Also, anyone taken a cooking class while in Saigon? Any places to recommend for one that includes a trip to the market?

Markets are great along Trung Hung Dao street, the main street in Saigon, war memorials if you enjoy that kind of thing, post office is kind of cool, next to the Notre Dame Cathedral, all this can be done in a few hours. Lots of history from the war in the hotels by the Rex. Officers used to have drinks on top of the Rex and Continental hotel has history. Great food in District 1 , also near the Rex, Lemon Grass, great Pho. Near the big market Bien Than (probalby mis-spelled) besides being the best market, there is a restauraunt Pho 2000, good food, made famous by Pres Clinton's visit. Getting a Cyclo ride is an adventure, negotiate your price, several dollars, make sure about the cost, then expect it to be doubled at the end of the ride. They can also take you around the sights. Do this during the day, a little hinky at night. Stay out of the massage parlors, shopping near the Sheraton is great. Enjoy the people, smile alot, they are kind, generous and enjoy speaking with you after you have bought the fans, post cards ect.
Be open, kind and gentle, they will like your skin, big belly if you have one, and hair on your arms.
