Hertz - Toll Charge

When I drove on NY Thruway, I exited in Cash lane, and paid by cash, that was all fine. When I exited on Garden State Parkway, the attendant told me the toll was already paid by E-ZPass while I never pulled out the the Toll Box, as did not even notice it was there. Today, my credit card got charged for $3.50 ($1.00 for the toll and $2.50 admin fee) for the $0.50 toll in cash price from www.platepass.com.

I have spoken to platepass.com and disputed the charge, and they said they are going to research this. I have not talked to Hertz yet.

Have you had this problem before? How do you resolve this?

The GS Pkwy has highway speed tolling in several spots. One of those is relatively close to the NY Thruway terminus, at the Pascack Valley tolls in Westwood NJ. If you want to pay cash, you must exit where it says something like: Cash/Oradell Ave/ Ridgewood/ Oradell. Just make sure you continue straight back onto the highway.

This was actually I got off GSP, exit 166, Pascack Valley. I exited in the Cash Receipts red lane. By the time I stopped at the attendant, the little monitor up there already said 'E-ZPass Paid'.

The high speed lanes pick up a much weaker signal then some of the other lanes do, part because they have much less time to lock on a signal. I don't think those little boxes shield it anywhere near enough to prevent them from reading it.

Good luck getting them to reverse it.

A week after I disputed the charge with platepass, they refunded the $3.00 above as I requested.
