I know bird strike happens all the time. So this is nothing new. But according to the report (http://avherald.com/h?article=42116eed&opt=0), the 767-300 from FUK to OKA only had THIRTY-THREE (33) people onboard  A domestic 763 has 261 seats and they can only filled that many seats!?!?! (If the number includes flight crew, then number of passengers will be around 23?). This is bad :(

I don't know why JL is not willing to switch to "Regional Jets" like AC did for low volume domestic flights given most domestic JP flights are so short so it should be bearable. Even AC managed to use Embrarers on its 4+ hours YVR-YYZ flights.

I know cabin comfort would sharply decrease but its important to keep the airline afloat, and I'm confident the high quality soft product of JL would make up for the difference.

Cargo? A side trip to keep a long-haul 767 utilized? Both?

Note that JAL also operates 737s on that route.

But yes, in general, JAL could do a much better job with yield management, equipment allocation, and scheduling.

With all the coming flight cuts, hopefully it will free up more aircrafts and they can better utilize them.
