Can someone help please. I am arriving at GRU on 28th December at 07:45 and want to book a flight to Rio downtown airport the same day. What would be the earliest flight and is it possible to book the flights from the UK in advance?
Also I know this may mean transferring to the domestic airport in Sau Paulo, but if possible I'd rather just go from GRU.
Thanks

Take a look at this thread:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/south-america/992746-o-w-flight-rio-sao-paulo.html
Basically, CGH-SDU provides the most frequent flights and usually the cheapest. Other posters indicate it is no problem buying the ticket the day of travel.
I understand TAM runs a bus service between GRU and CGH. A search of either TAM or GOL websites should give you the earliest flight scheduled.

Search on www.primus.com.br gives the following am flights - GOL, TAM,Webjet,Oceanair.
GOL is the only one that you can reliably buy a ticket on from outside Brazil. Their Argentina website accepts Visa,MC,Amex,Diners

Last year I bought a ticket GRU-SSA on TAM from Germany without any problems. Unfortunately I don't remember what CC I used.

In my opinion the best is to fly with WEBJET because they operate GRU-SDU (which is the downtown airport in Rio).
WEBJET operates 4 daily GRU-SDU flights. The problem is that their website is in Portughuese only, but I buy their ticket with my foreign issued AmEx without any problem.
In my opinion the best is to fly with WEBJET because they operate GRU-SDU (which is the downtown airport in Rio).

Thanks! If I'm arriving at 0745 in GRU, will I make the 11:20 flight easy enough, taking into account immigration etc? I'm arriving in F class to GRU, don't know if GRU has a fast track for F customers?
Thanks

Interesting, because last month when I tried to book on www.webjet.com.br it had the facility to use a foreign-issued Amex card but would not process the purchase without a CPF. I went to the online help facility and the agent said that there was no way for a non-Brasilian resident (without a CPF) to make a purchase online. Were you able to buy without a CPF? I used to be able to do this on the OceanAir website but they now require a CPF too.
As to purchasing from TAM international sites, the issue I have found is that they never have the deep discount promotional fares on any but their local Brasilian site, whereas the Gol Argentinian and other International sites have always had their lowest fares available for purchase in my experience.
If you can't purchase online you have to add a R30 fee for ticketing at the airport and if your travel is Dec 28 I wouldn't count on cheap fares being available for purchase at the airport just prior to departure.

I bought the ticket using a friend's CPF, in Brazil you need CPF virtually for everyting (it is like a tax number which ensures you are credit clean).

You will make it without problem. Last month I arrived with KL AMS-GRU at 16h40 and managed to get the Webjet flight at 18h15! Of course, afternoon is far less busy than morning arrivals, but you surely have enough time for the connection.
TAM has fast track facility for its F pax.

Rgs,
Thanks, how the hell do I get a CPF though?? Wonder if the owner of the pousada in Rio that I'm staying at will help?

There are several ways you could handle the issue:
1) you may buy your ticket over the counter at the airport after arriving;
2) you may buy the ticket through a travel agent or by
Webjet call center (0300 21 01234), or by email saying you have a foreing issued CC e-mail falecom@webjet.com.br
3) finally, just try to fill in any number in the CPF space like 00000. I think the reservation system will accept once they recognise you have a foreign issued CC.
You may also ask your pousada do buy your ticket for you.
Note that the only accepted foreign issued CC is AmEx.

The best to purchase tickets from secondary Brazilian airlines such as Webjet, Ocean Air, Azul, Trip, Pantanal, Passaredo is through onlie travel websites. The best of such websites for travel in Brazil and South America is DECOLAR: www.decolar.com
In fact, www.decolar.com offers fares of Webjet lower than available on the airline website because of corporate agreement.

Rgs,
Cheers, decolar also offering Ocean Air flights :)

Unlike Sao Paolo, the two airports in Rio are not that far from each other. So it is much easier to get a flight to GIG rather than transfer from GRU to SDU. I also believe, that in general, flights are cheaper from GRU than CGH.

This is not true. There is no doubt that it is much easier flying GRU-SDU instead of GRU-GIG because if you fly to SDU you land downtown in Rio, just a short ride to most of the hotels in Zona Sul. SDU airport is also smaller and this means much quicker procedures.
