Qatar Airways Privilege Club - Can I get UA 1K privileges on QR?

I am flying from DOH to IAD on QR51/UA4701 coach. I am 1K on UA. Any way I can get an upgrade using UA SWU? Does any of the 1K privileges apply to QR since it is just a partner airline and not a star alliance member?

First, welcome to FT!

Second, no, your 1K status won't translate to anything on QR. The relationship between UA & QR is a mileage-accrual/occasional-codeshare deal, but as is usually always the case, upgrade currency on one carrier doesn't translate to any other carrier. UA & LH are a notable exception to this, but QR follows the same pattern as almost everybody else.

If you talk to Qatar Airways Privilege Club, they will give you instant Silver status (because you are a 1K). That will count for something when flights are full and they need to fill up the premium cabins.

In my case, they screwed up and gave me Gold. Then they messed up again and I managed to remain Gold for a couple of years before the error was caught.
