Hi there,
I am flying into BKK from LAX in early Nov. (UAL award ticket) I need to book an onward flight to Krabi - there is a THAI flight at 8am, but 90 minutes seems like a tight connect (LAX flight arrives at 630am). There is an AirAsia flight at 1010 that is a little bit cheaper, but I would rather keep transit time to a minimum. Which would you recommend? Thanks!

The TG flight should let you check you bags through to Krabi. Then you just go through immigration to the domestic terminal.
Air Asia option will require you to go through normal immigration, collect your bags, then check in again..
Both might be cutting it a bit fine, but I would take option 1.

edit, Thinking about it, you might not be able to check through if not flying into BKK on TG.. Sorry to add to the confusion..

If both flights are TG you should be OK. More to the point you might be able to change your ticket to be LAX:KBV ;)

I do not believe that KBV is one of the domestic destinations that TG will allow you to check in for at the transfer desk.

Most likely you'll need to clear immigration, head up to floor 4, check-in and then clear security to access the domestic portion of BKK.

At least this was the case prior to the security changes on Oct 1.

KBV is one of the 'international connecting' destinations. By that meaning you can use the international-to-domestic checkpoint and clear customs in KBV. No need to collect your bags in BKK if flying through on TG. If flying on Air Asia, you do have to collect your bags and check-in again. Go with option 1. You should have plenty of time unless the LAX flight is seriously delayed.

Thanks for all the advice!
I should note that I am flying on TG, on an UA award ticket. I guess I have a similar question heading back - probably flying HKT to BKK to Siem Reap. What sort of transit time will I need if flying say TG or AirAsia to Bangkok Air? Seems like I might need more than an hour, right?

I will probably not have checked bags, if that makes a difference.
