Hilton HHonors - Hilton San Francisco Airport Trip Reports and Reviews

I stayed there on Saturday night. Very unexceptional. As a Diamond I asked what was available for an upgrade and they put me in a corner room on 14. Sadly you don't get any more windows on a corner room, but the room was a little bit longer. It did have a neat AV hookup - but I intentionally didn't pull out my laptop and work. The lounge offerings were typical - nothing fancy. It isn't any nicer than the Doubletree a block away, but it is conveniently right next to Kinkaid's. I felt like the service just wasn't that friendly and it is obviously an already aged hotel. It seems like the HGI down the street always has a tent on it (last three times I've looked for a SFO hotel). Maybe if they ever evict their bedbugs or whatever it is, I'll stay there.

Did they say there was free wi-fi in the lounge? Were there two computers with a printer in the lounge?

Thanks for the report.

I actually didn't check for wifi in the lounge. I checked in at 6:45 and the lounge closed at 7pm on Saturday. There was at least one computer and a printer.

elCheapo, Thanks.

The airport shuttle looks nice. :) It doesn't look like it's shared with another hotel.

I stayed there a couple fridays ago for a night. The King bed rooms are nice and large with plenty of space to stretch. The view of the bay from my room was sweet. The check-in counter recommended that the food in their restaurant was good...but I felt it was average and service was slow for a nearly empty restaurant and bar on a friday night. 20 mins for a beer and 40 for a quesadilla. Yikes.

I didnt try to access internet from the room as I was tired when I checked in. I hope it offers free internet access, atleast with AT&T DSL roaming like two other Hiltons in SF (Wharf and Fin Dist) do. It looks dated, but the cab driver that drove me over to the place said it used to be some other hotel till recently. So it may get a facelift if it does keep its flag.

It was the Sheraton Gateway SFO. A lot of us FTers are quite familiar with it.

So it may get a facelift if it does keep its flag.

This hotel already received an extensive renovation within the last couple of years. The rooms were thoroughly refurbished -- the guest rooms got new wallcoverings/paint, new carpets, all new furniture, bathroom updates, etc. Again, a lot of us FTers have stayed there both before and after the renovation and saw the difference. I think the chances of them springing for yet another renovation so soon after the recent one are pretty slim. If you think the hotel looks "dated" now, you should have stayed there before the renovation.

I think it looks dated now, which is all the more reason I SHOULDN'T have stayed there before the renovation...

But if you had stayed there before the renovation, you would actually appreciate how much they changed it! :p

(I'm referring to an interior renovation, of course -- the outside of the building isn't anything special and hasn't changed. They also, I think, did some structural/foundation work in the undergound garage area.)

It honestly wasn't BAD inside, and when I was there it had just converted from being a Sheraton (which I had not stayed at), but I can't really profess any great excitement over the renovation results. It's just another 3 to 3.5 star airport hotel now.

may be good choice for MR rest :p

They also have $79 rate for weekends which is awesome value IMO.

Yeah, as well as for mattress runs. ;)

The thing is, now that it is in the Hilton fold, there are a TON of Hilton HHonors hotels in the SFO airport area. OK, not literally a TON, but I think (without looking it up) that there were already a half dozen or more before the Hilton was reflagged from Sheraton.

So, really not all that special unless it's important for you to be in that particular location -- i.e., near Kincaid's, near the walking path along the shoreline and having a good view of the flight approach path, etc.

The weekend rates at some of the other HHonors hotels around SFO can be very low as well.

Watching the flight approach path and wondering how many other FT fellows are also doing MR is not bad :)

Yeah, as well as for mattress runs. ;)

It was nearly a time machine entry before renovation; you are quite right.

Of course, for watching aircraft on final approach and walking to Kincaid's, not to mention accomodations, the nearby Embassy Suites is better, IMO.

I stayed at the Hilton SFO a few nights ago. I usually stay at the Doubletree, but I wanted to try this one to compare. I got a king room on the end of the 12th floor. The HDTVs impressed me with actual HD programming and HD PPVs. There was a console at the desk where you could plug in extra inputs to the TV if had your own.

My king room was spacious. The bathroom had that freshly-renovated look and was clean. Lots of available power outlets in the room for recharging all my stuff.

$18 for self parking in the underground garage. $10/night for internet (both wired and wireless). The wireless seemed slow (at least from my room), but the wired connection was good.

Didn't try the restaurant.

I fly out of SFO about twice a year, and I'll probably return here.

No doubt! But the ES always prices fairly high, compared with some of the myriad other HHonors options at SFO. So for people like me who pay out of our own pockets, the ES isn't a viable option. :(

I stayed there earlier this year when it was a Sheraton.

The GM is horribly rude, as is the FRont Desk Manager.

The food and service also sucked.

I would avoid this property.

Are the same personnel there? Has anything changed as the rebranding has occurred?

Stayed at the hotel Sat night, I was on a US Airways milage run. Hotel is nice and clean but a very "cold" feeling and vibe was weird, I just didn't like it but could not put my finger on the issue. This was my first time staying at this property and I was put on the 13 floor but was not given instruction on the executive lounge and my key would not work to get up to the 15th. floor. Went back down and got it sorted out again they were not overly friendly at the front desk. The lounge personnel were good and told me most of the original Sheraton staff were still working at the hotel, also told me that Kincads was not great so I chose the hotel dining room, good service and not bad food. Executive lounge was $10 for a glass of wine and food was not great. Breakfast was very good, Totally non smoking hotel, no bathrobe or upgraded amenities in my room and charged $9.99 for internet, room was nice and big and clean, $109 per night weekend rate was great. I really liked the path access for a morning run and great view of the airport. I think next trip I would try another hotel.....

ewok22, could you tell if there was free wi-fi in the lounge? Are there still two computer terminals hooked up to a printer in the lounge? It's good they kept most of the old Sheraton staff. Thanks.

Kevino - Yes there still is 2 computers with printers in the lounge and yes you can access wi-fi you just need to get the passcode from the lounge host.
