Star Alliance - CM membership now that TA is out of the *A picture ?

With the news that TA and AV are going to merge

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601086&sid=a9VY6IRt_Ykc

I guess this probably takes TA off the *A radar as AV have said publicly quite recently that they are more interested in bilateral alliances with individual airlines rather than membership of a global alliance .

http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/2009/09/22/332565/interview-avianca-chief-executive-fabio-villegas.html

In any case , if AV were to go with a global alliance they seem more likely to go with Skyteam due to strong relationship with DL .

In that case I would think that CM has just become a lot more attractive to *A . My question would be , if *A decided to fasttrack a membership for CM how quickly do you think it could be achieved bearing in mind that CM is very closely integrated into COs systems ? I would have thought that a lot of the necessary work has already been done with CO becoming "*A ready".

This wins "thread title of the month award" for me. ^
Must be my slow brain but I had no clue what you were talking about until I did some research.

The "topic" field is pretty restrictive in length , so I had to try to find a way to say :

Could Copa be more likely to get a quick go ahead from Star Alliance now that TACA are merging with Avianca and therefore pretty unlikely to join Star?

without running out of characters - please feel free to suggest an alternative way of saying that which will still fit into the space provided ;)

I posted a related thread in "Other North and South America Frequent Flyer Programmes" about half an hour ago, and now I see this.

My post doesn't really answer your question (sorry!) but I thought it might be of interest. Also, I would find any contributions to the topic very interesting.
