Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer - Connecting in SIN from SQ to UA
Hi I have two seperate tickets the first from BLR-SIN on SQ 503 arriving in SIN at 6:10AM connecting with UA 804 to NRT at 7:10AM.
I have two questions.
1. Is my connection time sufficient ?
2. What do I need to do in BLR to ensure that my bags are checked all the way through and obtain my boarding pass for the UA segment ?
Thank you !

No you need more time. While theoretically possible to make the connection it is a high risk one.
You may or may not be able to through check bags - there is no obligation to under separate tickets and BLR check in may view the connection as risky thus not through check bags. You will not be able to check in for UA at BLR. You need your SQ flight to arrive at SIN on time, get off the aircraft quickly and reach the transfer desk in sufficient time to check in before United closes check in for their flight. That is possible, but unlikely.

Furthermore, SQ flight can either arrive at Terminal 2 (T2) or Terminal 3 (T3).
If your flight arrives at T2 you will have to make your way to T3 for boarding. Keep in mind that UA gate closes 20 minutes before departure.
For your UA flight, you might want to check-in online (if option is available to you) before you depart BLR. This way, at least you are check-in and only needs to collect the Boarding Pass (BP) at the transfer desk. There are some restrictions regarding UA online BP ex-SIN. I am not sure if you are able to print it and use it to board the flight. If this is possible, it will save you valuable time.
Good Luck.

I was also thinking of the BLR-SIN flight as the only one that could connect me directly onto a UA flight in SIN, ex-India.
Sunil - do let us know if you made it - I think SQ might come in slightly early on this route, but one never knows!
Update: Last night's flight came in at 0542 hours to T2 Changi.
(Most are coming in early - so should be no problem - I studied this connection a year ago, and was going to do it...some are even arriving at T3 as well)

I've always wanted to do this combo, but never had the balls to do it.
I even thought I read somewhere that the MCT was 1:10 for SQ-non SQ.
Do report back, and best of luck!
A slight correcttion that UA 804 leaves at 7:20 AM .. yup 10 whole extra minutes but you never that could make all the difference :)
Anyway that's how I'm ticketed. All tickets are full Y and I don't have any urgent biz the next day either so I'm going to give this a shot. I think odds are actually pretty good :)

I was going to go for the SIN-HKG-ORD routing, to get 744 all the way... :p

I have done this a couple of times in the last 12 or so months (in C/F) and I made my connection both times – but it is very tight and I just won’t do it anymore (I go via BKK or overnight in SIN).
First time the SQ flight was 20 minutes early and I had time to visit the SQ lounge in SIN. The second time UA Global Services in SIN met me at the SQ arriving gate and escorted me to the UA gate where I was the last person to board (they literally closed the door right behind me). I was in F.
Both trips were on the same PNR and I had no problem getting bags checked through to SFO (and they made it). Had to get my UA BP at the Transfer Desk in SIN…(except from the 2nd trip where the UA folks had my BPs ready when they met me at the SQ gate).
My advice is not to do this – especially not with 2 separate tickets.

Thanks for the feedback!
OK finished this trip. Connecting to UA 804 from SQ 503(or 504) from BLR was easy. According to the crew the SQ flight is almost always arrives 10-20 mins early and 99% ontime. 1hr 10 mins is more than enough time to connect. I even spent 20 mins in the *G lounge :)
