Air New Zealand Air Points - Reduction in Air ticket prices on day of departure?
Hi, can any of the FT members advise on why Air NZ dont offer cheaper tickets on the day of departure? I am off to Hong Kong next week and looked on line as a friend would like to go too, the seat prices are the same next week as they are for today, surely if there are spare seats on the day of departure could these not be offered at a reduced rate on a first come basis, thus filling the plane? there must be lots of people like myself and a few of my friends that could fly at short notice. thanks

If there were cheap last minute fares then some people would hold off booking until day of departure. Thus less revenue and overall fares would need to increase.

Try online the night before and you might be lucky.
I have scored a $99 to BNE by chance when I had to book the night before,

surely they could offer a few at a cheaper rate, at least they get some return and great for PR etc and a full plane! At least they offer a second seat for extra room at a cheap price, so that's one good thing, thanks

I ened up being 1 in 40 people on the flight so I think that was the only reason I got a good deal.

Maybe they were trialling student standby to see the viability of this?
