The offer I see in my Amtrak account is for 8k points on sign up. Compare to airlines credit cards its very little. Any better offers anywhere?

It's a trade-off. Fewer miles up front, but it's a free credit card which is going to save you $60-$75 a year.

I regularly get 16k offers, but I think they may be targeted.

Continental has a credit card offering 20k miles with a first year fee of $140?

you can get that and transfer the intial miles to your amtrak, then in 5k increments after that

Sure, but do you value the extra 4k points at $140? That's 3.5 cents per point. You can flat out buy them for 2.75 cents per point. Yes, I know you can cancel early or otherwise argue your way out of the fee, but for me? Way too much hassle.

Thanks for the idea. I just compare to AA citi cards, which have 30k miles on sign up and no fee for the first year.

Bear in mind the pts valuation for AGR may be different for you from AA/CO/etc, depending on what you use them for. 8K AGR will buy you a RT WAS-BOS with 2K to spare.

The 30K AA offer is a great one. Why choose when you can get both?

(FWIW the 30K AA offer is a special promo right now, usually it's only 25K.)

Sure, both would be fine :) But when you are churning AA cards...
