WestJet names Gregg Saretsky as Executive
Vice-President, Operations
Seasoned airline executive brings 23 years of experience to role

CALGARY, Alberta. October 7, 2009. WestJet Airlines today announced the appointment of Gregg Saretsky to the position of Executive Vice-President, Operations, effective immediately.

“Gregg has been a terrific addition to our team since joining in June 2009 as the Vice-President of WestJet Vacations,” said WestJet President and CEO Sean Durfy. “His vast experience in Canada and in the United States provides WestJet with the necessary expertise to deliver on our vision of becoming one of the five most successful international airlines by 2016. Specifically, Gregg’s previous operational roles at other major airlines in North America will serve us well. It is my privilege to welcome such an experienced veteran to our ranks.”

Gregg began his airline career with Canadian Airlines in 1986, where he spent 12 years in a variety of operational and marketing roles. Prior to WestJet, Gregg was with Alaska Airlines for nine years, most recently as Executive Vice-President, Flight and Marketing.

“I am looking forward to rolling up my sleeves and working with the Operations team,” commented Gregg Saretsky. “WestJet runs a world-class organization, and I am proud to have the opportunity to lead such a dynamic and enterprising group. The men and women of the Operations team truly demonstrate the caring and can-do attitude of WestJet.”

54 new planes coming. How many old leases 001-011 will be gone by then? I hate those leased planes.

the funny thing is that if westjet did announce vancouver-Branson, air canada would start service too. Why? cause they do things just to do things and they don't have to make wise decisions as they know they will just get bailed out. What is wrong with J class? Seems the only profitable airlines in the world offer only J class. Who are the dummies?

This Albertan vividly recalls AC trying to add a NS YEG-YLW, a market WS built from next to nothing and has owned for years and when AC did it got its butt kicked and they ended the service quickly as they did when they reintroduced NS YEG-YYJ service.

Of course now that the little Western airline isn't so little anymore it can't be dismissed so easily by the AC J class denziens who deride the WS product as somehow inferior. Nothing suceeds like sucess, something AC is still learning.

Faaaah! You and me both! Mind you! The ONLY thing i lik eabout them now is the fact that the two carts in the front cause a small galley counter!

I hate these planes for commuting on red eyes. The seats i dont find are as comfortable.

And in respect to J class... Everyone on WestJet is J class to me. :)

Nope. Better re-read the threads.

And do let me know when WS starts flying to Europe. If their HI experiments are any indication, they'll be a 737 with 100 seats blocked flying there any day now.

BTW, Gregg's a smart guy. Too bad AC didn't snap him up.

And that would be a sure-fire loss of profit right there haha! Unless tickets were sold for a grand-a-pop... then you can guarantee that people would choose other airlines... Except the REAL diehards.

737's aren't that bad. really theyre not!

When I fly in a 737, I have the same personal space as when I fly in an A330 or a 767, which also have 2 motors. I don't see the difference!

The only greif i have with a 737 is the fact theres no crew rest area if we're going to be doing longer haul flights to the max of the a/c's range. Such as YYC-HNL but then again the plane won't be 100% full so perhaps a seat or two will be left over for the FA's

Since you brought it up, the extra aisle on an A330 or a 767 makes the plane seem much less cramped and allows people to move about easier, which is important on longer flights when nearly everyone has to visit the lavs at least once. Just ask anyone who has flown on CO's transatlantic 757s.

For me, the difference is not important enough to influence my choice of airlines much. I agree that the 737s aren't that bad. I choose flights based on schedule and price. If WS can keep their prices competitive while having to block off a third of their seats, I certainly won't complain. (I'm not a shareholder!)

But now we are way off topic.
