Flying Blue (Air France & KLM) - expiring points
I was just dreaming that instead of having to take a short flight to avoid my miles from expiring that it was possible to save the hassle and just pay some miles or $ to keep the miles alive for a while.
Would save a day, parking fee etc as well.
Unfortunately this was just a dream....

I wish the Concorde was still flying and maybe retrofitted to 3 across seating....and 200 of them flying instead of just a dozen or so before.

There is another way: you live in NL, so you can get the cobranded FB Amex. As long as you have this card, miles don't expire. So although the miles earned through the card are only awardmiles, it will extend the validity of your miles.

Oh. I was unaware that the fb/amex card would keep my miles alive.
Actually I cancelled my fb/amex last march (as I already have a corp amex and a corp eurocard). Not sure when the last transaction with it was (had I known I would have used it one more time before cancelling).
Anyway, for now my miles expire on 01/2010 so either I have to make bookings before that date or take a flight.
(anr -> lcy is not too expensive, but it just wastes a day as I have no desire to go to lcy :p )

I think the cheapest regular flight you can get with KLM is AMS to BSL, roundtrip ticket costs ~99 EUR in V if you book it at least one month in advance.
Might be worth trying that out and doing a daytrip to AMS or so.

ams <-> bsl is eur 96 if booked enough in advance and if you stay three nights.
daytrip is eur 617.

I'm not sure that the transaction itself will extend the validity of the miles. Only having the card will extend as long as you carry the card. So if you didn't earn a level miles since over 20 months I guess the miles will be lost as soon as you cancel the Amex card.
But you always can reapply for the card again.

You can always spend ~200 EUR, and get 4 legs by booking Saturday AMS->BSL with return on Sunday and a trip from BSL->AMS on Saturday and return on Sunday.
If you time it right, you debark the plane, turn around and take the same plane with the same crew back...
That saves you from spending money on the hotel as you're spending the night in Amsterdam. But there are cheaper ways for extending your miles e.g. staying with friends in Basel.
