The latest round of blackboard deals on airnewzealand.co.nz (http://www.airnewzealand.co.nz/airfares_offers/hotdeals/hot_deals_fares/default.htm) include a 'Top of the World' sale, with many of the offers appearing to come with free short-term Koru membership. e.g. to LAX in Y (fare $1,574) gives 2 free months, LAX in Y+ (fare $2,574) gives 4 free months, LAX in J ($6,124) gives 6 free months.

Good deal, although I want to see the Lounge at LAX when all these extra KC members turn up!
I would guess the 2months come active from the date you travel, not from today?

T & C's state:
'Top of the World Sale - Free Koru Memberships can only commence during the "Travel Period" and can may not commence before the "Travel Period" or once the Travel Period has finished.'
Doesn't say whether you are able to nominate a time during the travel period when the free membership starts.
Also states that these members will not get guest passes or E-Passes, but will still be able to access premium check-in, additional luggage allowances and valet parking. Existing Koru members can have the free periods added onto their current membership period.

I would guess the 2months come active from the date you travel, not from today? The T's & C's page has a form you need to fill in, which includes a box for 'Start Date Lounge Access'. So you could time it to maximise lounge visits.

Can some one tell me if this sale is the equlivent to the Northern Lights sale last year. From memory this is later on like November but i could be wrong. To book or not to book is the question.....
Kiwi Flyer
Oct 7, 09, 3:35 am
Yes, equivalent but different terms. It is the advance purchase sale covering a significant portion of next year in travel dates.
kiwibigdave
Oct 7, 09, 1:19 pm
I wondered if it was the Northern Lights equivalent too, but didn't think it was only because the North America fares appear to be West Coast only? i.e. The Northern Lights sale had 5 or 6 'zones' from West to East you could book into, as per the fare structure ntddevsys posted.
Does anyone have the ability to post fare structures like that for this sale?

That's brilliant, thanks Kiwi Flyer.
And to clarify, the LAMBIRD Zone 1 North America fare @ $1,450 in your last post is the equivalent of the $1,574 in the opening post? i.e. With taxes or fees included in the latter but not the former?
And the same for the AAMBIRD Zone 1 North America fare @ $2,450 versus $2,574? i.e. The same $124 extra in ... something ...

Yes the difference is taxes. Obviously these vary depending on where exactly you fly to (and via).

Its good for these days (since NZ put through such large increases in business class), but you can get better on other airlines' sales.

Thanks - I got the last 25% off sale to Japan over New Years so keen to keep booking the cheap ones well in advance!
Cheap HK seems to be over most months. I need March (cheapest $4507 but only on some days) May ($4507 for most of month) and Sept (all $4507 that I can see).
