WestJet "Passenger Perks" - YYC to YVR via Kelowna or Non Stop

On 2 Jan I need to fly from YYC to YVR and I've been putting off booking a flight hoping for a seat sale. Well I logged on today and saw I can either pay $199 or $219 for a n/s flight or $139 via Kelowna.

Having heard so much about WS, I'm keen to try them to see how they compare to our aussie carriers and AC who I'm using to get from LAX to YYC. Has anyone used this service (I think its flight WS257) and can advice if this is operated by the same aircraft or would we need to disembark and change aircraft.

It will be the same aircraft, and you usually remain on board during the stop.

I'm guessing the prices will come down for that date. I can't imagine the n/s staying at $199 for the next 11 weeks.

I've been watching for a while and it seems that $199, $214 and $244 have been the fares for quite some time. All of AC fares are also $199 for the same date. I guess I can wait, but was a bit worried that these flights on 2 Jan might start to fill up quick given the number of people travelling after New Year.

The current sale, which goes for as low as $69 excludes your date. While there maybe a sale, if you want certainty then $139 might be the way to go.

Well, keep in mind though, that if you wait be prepared to possibly pay a higher ticket price! It is Supply and demand afterall and sales aren't pre-published.

$139 is a very good deal for Jan. 2. Book it now! Any other time of year, I'd say wait for the fares to get lower, but on the Saturday right after New Year's, it's far more likely that the fares will get more expensive rather than cheaper.

Who knows. You might well end up flying non-stop to YVR if YLW is socked in (not unheard of in winter). All you have to lose, at least on schedule, in an hour if that flight works for you otherwise.

If your schedule is flexible, last-minute deals are not unheard of.

Last year, AC cancelled our flight 3 hours before departure on Boxing Day (and rebooked us for 3 1/2 days later). Found a WS fare for departure 1:10 prior to flight time YVR-YLW for $168 inc. taxes/fees.

That let WX let us get out of the CA fare and we got the return on NYD for $49 instead of $99 on the next day (about 3 months in advance).

I guess you need a connecting flight back to SYD so that might not work for you.

Well I'm glad that I did go ahead and take the chance and book the $139 flight via YLW last night, as this morning when I checked this fare has already gone up to $169, things sure change quick. Anyway the stop in YLW will give us the chance to have one last glimpse of the rockies and snow before we head home to 40C temp.

We are actually staying in YVR at the Marriott for 4 nights before we fly home so an extra hour flying won't be a problem. As we live in ADL we are actually flying CX from YVR to ADL with only a 3hr transit in HKG, that way we avoid the hassle of changing terminals in SYD.

Anyway, I can't wait to try out WS.
