Virgin flying club - Do UC seat assignments loosen up close to departure?

The only seats left on my VS20 are by the bar - ugh.

Does anyone here have any experience of them opening up closer to the day (ie VS has blocked some for airport checking etc) or are they all really preassigned to actual travellers?

I guess some % of J travellers will change their plans at the last minute - more so than Y... so I'll keep checking.

When I flew to SFO in July in Upper Class on my return there were only a few seats available ( ie 16k and 23k closer to the bar).

When online check in opened a lot more seats were available including rows 1 and 2 on the Upper Deck and row 12 ( front of the nose section).

I would keep checking and OLCI as close to T-24 as possible.

Thanks - sounds like a good tip - being close to the bar can't be good (unless your an insomniac barfly)
