"Air France-KLM Cargo is planning to push up its freight rates and will transfer its two remaining freighters to Dutch sister carrier Martinair as part of a shake-up amid the economic downturn.
Outlining the background to those moves, Michael Wisbrun, KLM Cargo executive vice-president and AF-KLM Cargo chairman, said: "We have been hit hard by the impact of the economic downturn. We are acting swiftly on network redesign, capacity reduction and cost adjustments. Now, our revenues need to be stepped up to stop the bleeding."
On the fleet front, he confirmed that two of KLM's B747-400ERFs had been transferred to Martinair in June and the remaining two would follow shortly. "
