Air France Frequence Plus - AF service to AMM

Hi all,
It seems AF is serving AMM (Jordan) with its A320. I somehow remember this is a special service because :
- there is no Tempo Challenge (Premium Voyageur) area
- there is IFE (albeit not individual)
I would like to fly overthere but I am surprised of the following :
- prices are extremely high IMO
- flight time is very long for a narrowbody aircraft
- flight schedule is horrible, at least for the return (departing AMM 1.40 am, arriving CDG 5.30 am)
I assume the seats are the same as the ones of the European network. Therefore, I am not willing to spend that much money to sit on an Y seat in C cabin, nor few EUR less (because with my travel dates, it is really a few) to be in Y.
I am tempted to uses miles but according to FB redemption scheme, AMM is in Asia therefore it is 80,000 miles for an Affaires ticket. Even with 900k to burn before saying bye bye to AF (bit not to FlyerTalk), it would probably be the worst way to spend miles. TLV seems cheaper in miles though.
So :
- Am I right in my above information?
- Does anyone has ever flown this route and could bring advice?
- Does any airline fly there with a widebody aircraft and/or decent seats?
Thanks for your inputs.

Your information about the miles needed is accurate, although I would say that TLV is somewhat unusually cheap, as it is the same amount needed as for flights to ATH or IST.
On the other hand, it is true that the amount needed for AMM is the same as for CAI, which is part of AF's long-haul network.
Unfortunately, AMM (as well as DAM) is a destination that cannot justify using a widebody in AF's perspective.
For AMM, unless I am mistaken, BD operates A321s, which they code-share with BA, and LH also uses A321s out of FRA.

Thanks for the reply. I will probably consider flying to and back from TLV then, or the Star Alliance option.

If you're ready to consider Star alliance, why not try oneworld as well? Reading all the trip reports on FT one gets the idea RJ are really stellar in J even though it's a narrowbody (A321 to CDG). Surely you can have a use for some oneworld mileage too?

Indeed, in terms of schedule, RJ seems to be the best option.

I have taken AF and BMI to Amman and can say without hesitation that BMI were superior in both C and Y. AF has normal seats with a blocked out middle seat in C and Y was not comfortable at all. Sorry I don't know about RJ.
The bmi seats are quite good (mostly because they are from the old BMED A320-A321 planes. Doesn't feel cramped at all. Or you could also take Middle East Airlines (much recommended) via BEY and earn miles on AF. For suitable connections you will take the AF flight between BEY and CDG (both ways) and then connect to MEA for the BEY-AMM-BEY flights. I really recommend this. MEA C class is great and BEY lounge is LHR T5 level.

To add, AF does not even serve a decent meal on the CDG - AMM route.

I flew Bmi to Amman in C about 12 months ago - whilst the seats were 'bucket seats' (think first class on a US domestic flight) - my seat was broken, as was my travelling companions.
The IFE was a joke - the tapes were impossible to watch due to the fact that they were six weeks beyond when they were supposed to have been changed.
Service was also poor, with bored cabin crew not really caring - which is not what I usually witness on Bmi.
Whilst the service would be better than the AF A320 euro service - I would only rate it as a 3 out of 5 - and not a reason to take an extra stop to Heathrow.

AF flights to Amman are to be avoided at all costs. Truly, these are the worst flights on the AF network. If you do have to fly AF do not buy a C ticket. It is not worth it. It is an economy seat with no IFE to speak of and a barely upgraded catering. A great rip off. Better options are MEA (fantastic), OS (also good), and TK.

That was my thought indeed, hence my OP. The flight to AMM seems to combine at least three major drawbacks :
- it is Asia zone priced in miles (and very expensive in cash)
- it is European service onboard a narrowbody
- schedule is a nightmare
Better options are MEA (fantastic), OS (also good), and TK.
MEA seems indeed the best but as we are flying with an infant, I would like to fly direct therefore no alternative but RJ, which seems nevertheless great.
Also, RJ provides the best schedule IMO.
Thanks all for your inputs.
Just booked myself a flight to AMM in Y, before reading this thread... looking forward to it already
Just a question... will I get lounge access in AMM as a Gold-card holder in Y? And, more importantly if the answer is yes, do they serve alcohol in there?

Good point regarding MEA - they are rather good in Y as well from what I recall and BEY is not a hardship to transfer in. Even better if you manage to pop into Beirut for a night or two.
Speaking of BEY, AF serves it with a daily 777-300ER and also codeshares on MEA's 2x daily A330-200 flights.

Yep - when I have gone to Beirut I have always tried to get on the MEA flights from CDG rather than the AF ones! Definately better in terms of service.

Long live MEA! (though not why I am posting it on AF forum...)
