Other Asian, Australian and South Pacific Frequent Flyer Programs - Some luggage questions about EVA(BR)

Hello....
I have a few questions about EVA(BR) luggage allowance policy for regional flight, like TPE-HKG. I will fly in Y and no status with BR.
1) Does EVA really check carry-on luggage weight? I will not do a excessive carry-on, but I don't want to be fined for 1kg extra.
2) For regional flight, we have 20kg per person. CI allows using 4000 miles for additional 5kg allowance. Does EVA(BR) have the similar things?
3) Any other suggestion or tips on saving if I have 30kg total luggage?

Thanks

I have flown EVA 8 times in the last 8 weeks and have not had my carry on weighed. So my guess is that it is okay.

I cant answer your other questions.

Agree with previous answer. EVA has gone through brief phases of weighing hand luggage but they seem relaxed at TPE right now. 1Kg wouldn't be a problem... But if you had no checked luggage and were really pushing it, they might insist you check something.

NB.. HKG was very strict on hand luggage when I flew HKG-TPE on BR earlier this year. This is an airport thing rather than an EVA thing. No exceptions. They were only weighing stuff that looked as if it might be over - but then enforcing strictly.

No, not as far as I know. Just FFs get more (Silvers +10Kg, Golds/Diamonds +20Kg). Perhaps you will just have to pay - or they might let you get away with it. Of course C class gets 30Kg. You could consider a one-way upgrade on miles if you have enough.

I am a little confused about upgrade on EVA.
I know I can not upgrade on cheap ticket.
So here are the additional questions.
1) Can I upgrade on v/u fare?
2) For TPE-HKG route, it says
http://www.evaair.com/html/b2c/english/club/Reward_program/Upgrade/
For Economy (Flights without Evergreen Deluxe/Elite cabin service) to Super Business / Premium Laurel, I will need 15k miles.
For Economy to Evergreen Deluxe / Elite, it says "Not available".
But usually the plane has Evergreen Deluxe / Elite seat. Does that mean I can use my 15k mileage to upgrade to business class? And Evergreen Deluxe sold as coach?
3) If I upgrade to Business, will I have 30KG allowance?

Thanks

Yes you can upgrade V/U, AFAIK. Subject to availability, of course!

Yep - they don't sell those seats as Deluxe. If you have an Economy ticket, you could be seated in the deluxe or economy cabins. Note that some flights are A330s and indeed have economy and PL cabins only.

Yes - 15K miles to upgrade your economy ticket to PL or SuperBusiness (not sure if they still have SuperBusiness on this route - unlikely).

Yes - in Business whether bought, upgrade with miles, award ticket - you get the perks. 30Kg, lounge, priority luggage handling, priority boarding. They are less likely to keep you to 30Kg too.

If you haven't got the ticket already, check what the normal business class cost is on the website. Recently there have been some very good C class deals on regional flights.

BR has really been going back and forth about weighing carry on bags. In North America, I have had them weighed in LAX and SFO, but not in SEA or YVR. In Asia, they have yet to be weighed. It's been a few trips since they have asked me to put mine on the scale.

More question on TPE-HKG route.
1) My understanding is that 333 PL is much better than 744 SuperBusiness. At least the seat pitch is much longer. Is this true?
2) Do BR serve meal on this route in C? I know it is a short flight.

Thanks

1) Yes. 333 PL is similar to the other PLs. 61" pitch or thereabouts with AVOD. SuperBusiness is usually 44" with a screen with channels.

2) Yes they do, there's a choice, and it's jolly reasonable. I was OP-UPed to the 333 PL on my last BR HKG-TPE. All-in-all a rather a pleasant trip, but short of course.

I will in PL next week to KUL so will let you know about dodgy baggage weighing schemes, hiding the ice cream and back breaking slippery slope seats
