TG 920 BKK FRA 04th Oct went tech - changed from 7443 ==> 7442

Tonight I was on the TG 920 BKK-FRA flight departing Bangkok on the 4th.
Somewhat happened to the plane and we had to leave it just before boarding was completed.

They searched for a replacement plane and, surprise, surprise, it went out to be a 7442 with F14C50 configuration.

So everybody who is on the TG 921 this afternoon (5th Oct 2009) should be warned.

You will be on the worst Business Class Seat ever.

It's sad to hear. But again, the alternative would be a lengthy delay until a 7443 returns from other flight. For those who has to get to the destination on time, this may be the best TG can do.

yeah, you are right.

That can happen all over the world and I don't blame TG for it. But after 2 1/2 hours waiting in the lounge I was not excited to see those antique C- Class seats. I just would wish they would have a more consistent fleet.

However, as LH, OS and LX all were gone, it was still better than to wait for the next day.

It's no big secret that TG will EQ to keep their fleet airborne, which I find preferable to being abandoned. It's also no big secret, that other airlines have a younger fleet. Why fly if you are unhappy, why don't you just go back to your hotel and catch the next flight, regards bkkrop

This might be a radical thought, but TG could upgrade the interiour of the 7442s to the new seats in order to have a consistant product on offer !

Exactly. But a rumor (again) is that the six 7442 will become 7444 with CX style First and Biz seats. The 346 will also get retrofit to reduce biz to 36 seats, according to the same source.

Herringbone C...? This would not solve the TQ EQ (in)consistency issue though... ;)

Sorry, this sort of silliness is why I only fly TG in a pinch. They've been misleading about eqp on routes forever.

Some years ago (before the 744 refit) they advertised that BKK-LAX would have the (then) new seats Tue & Fri. It was printed in their schedule. It never happened. My last paid TPAC TG flight was when a FA told me to never believe their advertising.

On most airlines an equipment sub still gives you the same product. Not true on TG.

There are pages & pages of rants about TG's last minute equipment subs & I think all are justified. In spite of all their raves in various polls, I think that TG is just about on par with VN.

Thailand is a great place, but TG is crap. I fly LH or AF when I want to go to BKK from SGN.

Sources are always nice to have :) Last winter I was told from my TG insider that TG wanted to keep the 7442 config because they are making good money on CPH and ARN with the extra "premium" seats. Yield is quite high on these routes and Scandinavians apparently like the C, PE and Y concept just as much as they love Thailand.

Situation on ARN and CPH might have changed after opening to OSL so it will be interesting to see what happens. However, I dont see TG spending any money on refurbishing the 7442 any time soon with the present economic climate.

Thailand is a great place, but TG is crap. I fly LH or AF when I want to go to BKK from SGN.

I fly out of MEL to Asia weekly, and SQ, GA, CX and QF will often sub me into an older plane, but being able to get where I want to via CGK, HKG, BKK or SIN, I can normally survive, unless I am on an award or cheap fare. Then I politely sit down and shut up.

Now the guy who handles the FRA routes must be called Billy not silly and it must be obvious to all concerned who use BD miles that the Asian carriers are putting you onto flights that use old equipment or are subject to change. This trend was started by SQ and has been wholeheartedly taken up by all the *A carriers. TG have made a lot of money selling the old seats on the 7442 to the young European market who want to fly to Thailand beaches cheaply, why would they change. Who has to change are the whingers who pay peanuts and expect that a couple of thousand points will upgrade them into a state of the arts fair dinkum top rated First class, get a life!, regards ;) bkkrop

Hello Bert,

sorry, but the one who pays my salary awaited me back on Monday morning.
Therefore, no extra day of holiday.

And you know that I fit very well into a c-class seat. At least in the new one....

SQ 'often' sub an older plane ex-MEL do they ?.

it must be obvious to all concerned who use BD miles that the Asian carriers are putting you onto flights that use old equipment or are subject to change. This trend was started by SQ and has been wholeheartedly taken up by all the *A carriers.

What ?.

Are you seriously saying that airlines, be it TG or whoever else you are accusing, are making equipment swaps due to people on that flight having booked with BD miles ?!. What utter bollox. I have seen some nonsensical accusations on here over the last few years, but this is up there with the best ever.

Who has to change are the whingers who pay peanuts and expect that a couple of thousand points will upgrade them into a state of the arts fair dinkum top rated First class, get a life!.

What about those who pay to fly on TG in J and F, or do these 'issues' you clearly have tell you nobody on board TG these days in J and F has paid for a ticket, so equipment swaps are fine ?.

What I don't quite understand though, is which way you want it. You recently claimed that TG are somehow restricting awards to unnamed European FFP(s), now you claim they are swapping to old aircraft if people have booked awards:

The old perk of using an European program for mileage then buying awards on TG is slowly being eroded with TG being fussy about what they give and to whom.

You need to make your mind up which it is to be, and actually provide some evidence of these ridiculous claims. Or maybe consider who it is who needs to get a life.

If you unhappy with your recent FFP ( ROP ) , you should change, may be to the much better one DC. I think it is each customers choice which FFP him choose, and fits best in him earning/spending ratio !
This one has absolutely nothing to do with which FFP's miles or points one use, it is only up to TG's unqualified management ( ไม่เหมาะสม , ไร้ความสามารถ การจัดการ ) ! Them should be able to organaize at least planes with the same seatproduct if them change equipment ! Anything else is fraud !
In the beginning them offered/promoted more routes/flights with new seats, than airplanes them had ! And them already knew them could not serve all the routes even there was no tech. on any flight.
