A two part question:
1. What is flying TAP like?
2. We need to connect in Lisbon. One set of flights they are offering gives about an hour between flights. Is this enough time?
Thanks!

What are your expectations? I do not hesitate to fly them. (To give you an idea, I normally fly LH or LX.) But I live in Spain so I know what to expect in Iberian countries when it comes to service. (Do not expect many fake smiles and “how are you today?”s.) :)
I find their Economy class above, and their Business class below average.

It’s a small airport. But if you arrive from the US there will be normally a bus from the plane to the terminal. And I have had some long(ish) lines for immigration. (I consider 15 minutes “long”.)
If your flight arrives on time, you should be OK. But do it only if it is on 1 ticket.
TAP's a European "flag carrier". Its flights can be as good - and probably just as bad - as any other major international airline's. From the UK, TAP is my first choice for flights to Brasil, though high fares often divert me to other carriers.
Transfer at Lisbon airport has been the single worst part of the experience, though over the last year or so things have improved enormously as TAP, and the airport, take seriously the development of the airline's hub strategy.

I have always found the flight and service - including catering, to be very good, and so long as you do not need your luggage when you get to the other end you will have a very pleasant experience.
On the hand if flying to and from Rio by TAP and connecting in Lisbon it is a bit of lottery what happens to your luggage and how long it takes to join you, no matter what class or direction you fly.
depends if the pilots of TAP are on strike...if so... total disaster!
