My wife and I will be flying home from TPA to PIT on 11-1.

We currently have a connecting flight that leaves around 1:30 PM.

There is an earlier direct flight that I could booked, but didn't since I will be debarking a cruise ship that morning and wanted to give myself enough time to get to the airport.

However, if we should happen to get to the airport in time to take the earlier flight, what is the chance that we would be able to get on that flight without having to pay any additional monies?

We will not having any luggage to check-in, only carry-ons.

Thanks

From AirTran's web site:

Changes at the Airport on Day of Travel
Customers have two options for changing to a flight other than their reserved flight at the airport on the day of travel. Based on space availability, customers may reserve a confirmed seat on an earlier flight to the same destination for $49 per person per segment. Or, customers have the option to standby for another flight to the same destination at no charge. These options are only available at the airport on the day of travel.

One of many advantages to flying AirTran. DL, US and Southwest, among others would charge you to move to an earlier flight on a cheap fare.

I take advantage of free same day standby all the time on AirTran, which has saved me hundreds of dollars over the years vs. Delta.
