Spain/Portugal/Gibraltar - What is the cheapest way to get to Madrid after midnight arrival?
Hi,
Could someone please advice what is the most economical way to get to the city center from Barajas by midnight? (flight arrives at around 11:45P) Does the metro still operate that late or is taxi the only option at that time?
Thanks
According to this (http://www.metromadrid.es/es/viaja_en_metro/red_de_metro/lineas_y_horarios/HorarioLinea8.html) page you should be able to take the metro until at least 1.30.
Be aware that for most destination you'll have to change lines at Nuevos Ministerios, so you should check also when the last train leaves from there. (Of course, if you have to taxi from there to your final destination the economic damage will be a lot less than from the airport...)
Thanks Koby. One more question. My flight arrives at around 11:45P and I will have 1 carry on and a bagpack. Do you think it is safe to take the metro at that time? Once I am in the center and traveling without bags it shouldn't be a problem but I was a bit concerned about lugging my baggage around and being a target. Am I being too paranoid?
That late at night I normally just take a taxi (but not for security reasons), so I have no personal experience. But I would not hesitate to take the metro from the airport at night if my budget would demand that.
In any case, I have not read about any real security problems in the Madrid metro (unlike, for instance, the RER in Paris). Just be aware of what’s happening around you like in any big city.
Bueno, gracias por el consejo y voy a cruzar los dedos. :D
I wouldn't be worried about the metro from the airport to Nuevos Ministerios late at night. Another line after that with luggage - I'm not so sure. It depends a bit on which weekday it is and the vibe I get at the station. Taxis are cheap downtown...
