Airlines of India - Baggage limit and transfer on Jet

I can't seem to get a straight answer from Jet on this. On their website, it says passengers traveling from US/Canada to India are allowed up to 46 kg each. I am flying from US to Bangkok on another airline (not a codeshare or JetPrivilege partner, but an interline partner of Jet), and directly transferring to Jet in Bangkok for onward travel to India. Same with the return - transfering from Jet to the other airline in Bangkok.

My questions:
1) Will baggage be through-checked in from US to India? Tix are on 2 different airlines on tickets purchased separately.
I was told they might do a courtesy airline-to-airline transfer. What does that mean? Are there no consistent rules about baggage transfer?

2) Can I carry 46 kgs as free baggage allowance on Jet (it is allowed on the other airline for US-Bangkok-US trip) because my travel originates in the US, AND I am directly connecting in Bangkok with no stopover longer than 24 hours?

I called Jet USA about this and they said the 2 piece concept would apply, just show your US BP/ticket at check-in. As for interlining, Jet is not so good at that (but neither are any of the others) ;)
If it's on the same itinerary, you should be fine, though.

Well, the two tickets are on separate itineraries. So, at the origin in India, if Jet refuses to transfer my baggage to the other carrier in Bangkok, I will have to retrieve my baggage at Bangkok airport and transfer it myself.

What is a safe connection time in Bangkok in that case? I have 1 hour 45 min in Bangkok - is that sufficient? If cutting it close (assuming flights arrive and depart on time), I would rather cancel my Jet flight and fly on another airline.

1:45 should be more or less enough except for queues at bkk immigration. I've never been nuts enough to try "two separate tickets" with under 2 hour connection times, anywhere on an international trip, unless I'm traveling with hand baggage only.

it will be tight, but doable, especially if you are in F/J, even with having to recheck your luggage.

if you're not in F/J, the key is to RUN :D (although it won't always work because the bags might not even be out by then :rolleyes:).

another factor is how far you have to walk between baggage claim and check-in for your connection. if it requires getting on a bus/train, it's more risk. and if you're not in F/J, do you have status to check in at the priority desks, etc.

if you're answering 'no' to a lot of these, it might be best to rebook :)

And get a thai visa in India or wherever you are first, before you fly into BKK - if you have to clear immigration there. Else prepare to spend like an hour or more waiting at the visa on arrival counter .. BEFORE you even get to stand in line for immigration.

I have done the through-check as you described in your first point on seperate tix interline to Jet with no problems.

As for second point, I have done that as well but plus an extra bag...still no problems...

I have done SFO-SIN on UA and then SIN-BOM on SQ ON TWO SEPERATE TIX with a 12 hr hold in SIN. My bags were checked all the way BOM from SFO. Which airline are u flying out of from the U.S.?
