Other Credit Card Programs - Difference in thank you point shown as transfered and actually transfered
I have a unique situation. My citibank statement is showing X amount of flight point transfered but my thank account shows less than X amount of flight point. In my statment it shows 5000 purchase point earned and 20000 (bonus point earned) and total of 25000 purchase and bonus point transfered. I had a lot of flight point and so my statement shows 25000 flight point also transfered and my flight point balance reduced by that. So far so good. However my thank you account shows three credit for the statment 5000 point (earn), 20000 point (bonus) and 15174 (bonus). So the flight point is reduced by arbitrary number. It should be 25000 instead of 15174. (I have rounded purchase point and bonus point but problem remains the same).
Has any body encountered this problem and how to best resolve this? I call thank you network and then sent back and forth between citicard and thankyou network 2 times. Each rep thinks i don't know how this things are computed and try to explain various thing. The problem is that Citicard rep don't thankyou account so they speculate that i am not seeing/understanding correctly and thank you rep also thinks the same way. Any tip how to tackle?
The flight pt transfer is not arbitrary. But it can be really confusing because it is a running balance - unless you keep a meticulous record like a spreadsheet, it is hard to keep track of.
If you are sure about your calculation, call Citicard again. Ask to talk to an account manager, once you get one, briefly explain to him/her there is discrepancies and the account manager would put in an investigation request. A few weeks after that, you will receive a form for you to detail out the issue.
I thought I had similar situation like what you described, in that Citi failed to include a referal bonus in the matching purpose. I was expecting over 10K flight pts to transfer, but it only transfer 3xxx flight pts. When I started filling out the form, and then had to go back to pull all the statements, I realized the bonus already was used up to match flight points. At the end, only after going thru all the statements, I found out Citi was actually correct, for once. :p
This is exactly the kind of answer thank you and citicard repsare giving and trasnfering to each other.
However as i mentioned the no flight point transfer is correct and my statement is showing correct amount transfered but correct amonunt didn't reach to thankyou network. Has anybody encountered this kind of problem?

For me, rather than going through all the calculations, if its in the ball park then I am good.

yes. In my case the calculation is not that difficult. I had
In my case the difference is 13000+ point.
My statements shows following:
--------------------------------
Flight Points Summary1 Period ending 10/01/09
Beginning Flight Points 60007.00
Flight Points Earned More Information 0.00
Flight Points Adjusted / Expired More Information 0.00
Flight Points Transferred to ThankYou Account More Information 28782.00
Remaining Flight Points Balance 31225.00
Special / Bonus Points More Information 0.00
Purchase Points Summary1 Period ending 10/01/09
Purchase Points Earned More Information 6772.00
Special / Bonus Points More Information 22010.00
Purchase Points Adjusted More Information 0.00
Total Purchase Points Earned 28782.00
Purchase Points Transferred to ThankYou Account More Information 28782.00
-------------------------------------------------------------
My thank you account shows following activity for this statement:
10/02/2009 Citi PremierPass(SM) Card(XXXX): Statement closing date: 10/01/2009
Bonus 22,010
10/02/2009 Citi PremierPass(SM) Card(XXXX): Statement closing date: 10/01/2009
Earn 6,772
10/02/2009 Citi PremierPass(SM) Card(XXXX): Statement closing date: 10/01/2009
Bonus 15,194
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
So the last bonus point is actually flight point transfered which should be 28782.00. It is easy to see the problem but the problem is non of the CSR can see both my citi card account and thank you acount.
Does your statement also have this line?
Total Points Transferred to Your ThankYou Network Member Account This Period
If that line shows 43,976 points you know the problem is at the Citi credit card end. Either way I would work with the card customer service and keep the complaint simple. "Statement says 57,564. Thank You account posted only 43,976. Fix it." I wouldn't describe the breakdown or speculate on the reason because this gives the CSR an easy way to explain it away. Make them do the work.
Statement is correct in every respect. It says:
Total Points Transferred to Your ThankYou Network Member Account This Period: 57,564
Have you reached the annual TYP limit for that card account?

My statement shows following year to date activity
Flight Points Earned: 26895
Purchase Points Earned: 40483
Transferred to ThankYou Member Account: 80966
I thought there is limit on Earning only and not how much that can be transfered . Is there any limit on how much can be transfered?
I called citicard again and the guy was able to see that less point was transfered than what statement showed. They started an investigation and will let me know the the result in mail. I will post the results. Thanks for all your posts.

At the time I thought I was short well over 10K - that to me is too far away from the ball park.

The limit is on the earning - on both purchase point AND flight point.
For a PPE, 100K purchase (including bonus of all kinds), and 100K flight point, for a total transferrable pts of 200K a year.
For a PP, the amount is 50% of the PPE, and the flight pts is every 3 miles a pt instead of 1 miles a pt.
The transfer limit should be the same as the earned limit, as all earned pts are transferred after statement close. Once you stop earning, there is no new pts to transfer.

Not true for flight point. You can have untransfered flight point carried over from last year right which could transfered in next year as you earn more purchase point.
As you can see following actually total point transfered (year to date) in my case is not same as total point yearned (year to date). I would assume the limit (100K for me) is on earning and no of point transfered in a year may be more than the limit.

Flight Points Earned: 26895

I guess there is a misunderstanding here. Flight pts first are earned by the flights. Then they are matched with the purchase pts to become transferrable.
What I mean is, once your flight pts earned reached 100K for the year - there is NO MORE flight pt posting to your account. Any flight pts after 100K in the same year, are lost - meaning they will stop posting to the flight pts account. To me that is what I mean no NEW pt to transfer. As what continue to transfer, are OLD flight pts you have already earned - part of the 100K cap of the year.
This is the message on my PPE card from the June statement and onward:
For calendar year of 2009, you have earned the maximum number of Thank You Flight Points on this card. But you can keep earning Thank You Purchase Points by making purchases with your card.
Thank You Flight Points accumulation will resume in January 2010.
