Flying Blue (Air France & KLM) - FB Miles Alert

View Full Version : FB Miles Alert

I have just received an e-mail looking as if it comes from FB (the e-mail address looks legit). It says that they are sending me an e-mail alerting me of a booking using 20,000 miles.

I have made no booking, and there are no bookings in my 'manage my booking' tab. I wonder if this is a real service from FB (in which case I am worried someone is plundering my account), or if it is spam.

Any previous experience?

Thanks

have you called Flying Blue?

Relocated to New Zealand. Got to call Australia service centre which has yet to open.

Spending 300,000 miles down here is going to be a challenge - Korean or Malaysian only (and KE's business class down to AKL is pretty dated.)

I would imagine you can call any FB service centre. I never call the UK (France) based service centre for example (though I live in the UK) when making queries/award bookings etc because they are terrible.....and no problems doing that.

If Aus is still not open maybe worth a try.

Right click on the email address.
Left clcik 'View message source'.
Check the details.
You may well find that the details given do match the Flying Blue email address. This would almost certainly mean that it is bogus.

Whatever you do, do not follow any embedded links in the email, such as 'Click here to go to your account'.

Does the email that purports to come from FB state your name? Does it list your FB number? Spam or phishing emails often omit these things or have one but not the other.

Never got an "alert" from FB. They only send booking confirmation with flight details. If it does not even show on your booked flights on the website then it is a bogus mail. Be very careful and do not open any link.

Thanks for the replies. I have used FB for my own awards and have never had someting like this come through. It is actually in my son's account - about 30,000 miles in it.

I'll give FB Oz a call - either this is a phishing exercise, or it is a really useful way of FB alerting account holders that activity is happening that you may not be aware of.

The e-mail appears very authentic. Either way, I will report on what FB says so that we can be clear what the communication is.

Maybe he used his account to give an award to his girlfriend?

Why don't you just check the FB account by logging on to it. The balance will tell you if 20K miles have gone missing and there should be a booking in the "Manage my Bookings" section.

The e-mail appears very authentic. Either way, I will report on what FB says so that we can be clear what the communication is.

And what was the result? Authentic (and a new service), or bogus and a phishing expedition?

I made an FB award booking a few days ago, and within a day I received an "Award Miles Update" e-mail from FB notifying of an award booking. It quotes the correct number of miles deduction plus my FB number though no details of the booking itself. And it doesn't give a direct link to "check" your FB account but instead directs you "for more information about your account" to airfrance.com and KLM.com.

I don't ever recall receiving an e-mail like this before, but as far as I can see the one I received is legitimate. A new service from FB?

Hope this helps,

KG

Sorry for not coming back to the forum, but I have been away on business quite a bit (and discovering NZ is close to nowhere into the bargain).

The e-mail does not come from FB despite the very authentic look with the correct FB account number (I did not click on any links).

There are no miles missing from my Son's account (and bizarrely, none have been debited for a trip in August we did together either!).

This must have been a phishing trip - I have not received anything since.

I am also finding out how worthless FB is in this part of the world - but sadly this is *A's gain.

Thanks for your interest
