Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer - JFK-SIN; retiring 747s anytime soon?

Last year we flew JFK-FRA-SIN in Y on SIA's now aging 747s. The plane was indeed a bit long in the tooth. In fact, we had to move from one seat because it was broken, missing a screw or similar and, even though a mechanic was called on board before we left the gate at JFK, they said it would have to await repair until arrival in SIN.

There have been rumors about retiring the 747s on this route and replacing them - I assume - with 777s? Does anyone know if this is likely in the coming months?

We are planning a return trip to SEAsia this summer and most other well regarded carriers flying this route are now flying much newer metal. Thanks.

Less likely as time goes on. A380s postponed; 73A conversions proceeding slowly, and only 7 frames, all committed already; little prospect of 77Ws being freed up from other routes; all together = continued use of at least some 744s, and those retained would likely continue to be assigned to SQ11/12 and SQ25/26.

The last article in an aviation journal, reporting the deferrral of the next tranche of A380s, also indicated that the final retirement of SQ passenger
744s had been set back from March 2010 to perhaps as late as March 2011 (end of the following fiscal year).

But all this is bits and pices of info, and a lot of conjecture, inferred from looking at the fleet and its expected deployment. SQ has stayed silent.

Thank you Bitteroot for that information. It gives me something to think about other than just "guessing blind."

What we really want is the PE product on the EWR-SIN non stop to return or, barring that, for TG to return with non stops to BKK. Neither of which seems will happen . . .
