I will travel this weekends from LHR to PVG (China) by VS then PVG to TPE (Taiwan) by FM.

The tickets were booked seperately and I know VS has no obligation to do check-through luggage for me.

The connecting time in PVG is only 2 hours so I will try to have carry-on luggage only. I heard VS has very strict 6-kg rules for all carry-on luggage.

Could any VS expert to help me clary some questions and try to give me suggestions for this trip about luggage issue?

1. Can I use online checkin for self-print boarding pass without bag drop-off?

2. Can I carry my possibly over 6 kg carry-on luggage to pass the security then go to boarding gate directly?

3. Will VS gate agent ask me to weight my carry-on luggage and will they do gate check for my carry-on item?

Or other better suggestions I can do to make this trip smoother?

Many thanks.

It would help to know what class of travel you are in ... Upper will give you two pieces of hand luggage and less scrutiny for example.

However, VS can be strict about hand luggage - especially if it looks like you are carrying the kitchen sink! Yes, print your BP when doing online check in and you can go straight to the gate - if it looks like your bags are heavy and they're large and more than one, you'll risk being stopped and asked to check them at the gate. If they're smaller, it doesn't look like you're staggering under the weight etc. you'll be fine. There are no scales at the gate, so it's down to appearances ...

Honestly, for the cabin safety, I really hope VS gate agent will let me to do gate-check my carry-on. But I prefer it not a real checked-in, just add a small tag (I will have a receipt), like baby trolley or car seat, then I can get it immediately at arrival gate of PVG.

Is it possible?

Thanks!
