I've always thought this a good idea (for me and the airline!) :D

It would be great of flight attendants did a quick pick up of trash before the cabin door closes - just leave the trash on the ground and not fly it to the next destination.

I just saw Brian Williams cover this story on the NBC Nightly News. What a hoot! This I expect from Ryan Air... but ANA? Williams seemed like he was covering his @ss just in case this was a phony story by stating he didn't believe it when he first heard.

Fly by weight is coming! I can feel it.

From NPR's Wait Wait programme today:

"I just hope people don't confuse this with the announcement about all liquids needing to be in plastic bags."

On some longer flights, for every pound of urine/feces not boarded, the airline can save a pound of fuel (or more). Maybe even more, if the trend turns into a situation where less of a loading of toilet chemicals and toilet supplies can be loaded.

Don't you know -

Its a new green program, leave your nitrogen / carbon emissions at the airport!

And methane emissions. Think of all the weight the plane could lose and the lives we could save by having people reenact the scene "Blazing Saddles" in between Chipotle and the terminal before they board. Might not be good for the person behind you in line, but it's great for the environment!
