Hertz 5* was PC until a few months ago. Booked F, got a hyundai sonata with 40k miles. Argued then got a new camry with 600 miles but smelled like lemon pledge, made me want to throw up. Went BACK into the counter and another lady helped me and gave me an avalon w/lthr. Avalon smelled bad too but I didn't want to go back so I just toughed it out. ...? I can't stand Hertz lately.

New cars do tend to have a chemical odor...

obviously new cars have an odor, they aren't lemon scented though. I know what a new camry smells like, I have one.

No, it's certainly not the new car smell. I actually find that somewhat pleasant. I was told it's the cleaning solution they use to clean cars between rentals. I don't remember a lemony smell (smelled more like that foaming bathrooom cleaner), but it really did stink. Fortunately it wasn't as noticeable after a couple of hours.

My last rental at ATL wasn't so great either. First car I got was a Camry with about 30K mi on it - upholstery was filthy and the car smelled like an ashtry.

After a few hours, we finally swapped this car out for a newer Camry at the neighborhood location in Marietta. Really nice guys out there. The next Camry stunk of this cleaning solution, but I figured that was the lesser of the two evils.

By the way, I've had this problem with Alamo too. Whatever they clean their cars with smells ten times worse than whatever Hertz uses.

I think i've rented cars from 4 different companies in ATL in the past year. They all stunk. I think it's ATL. ;-)
