Flying Blue (Air France & KLM) - Window seats unavailable to reserve on Tokyo flights

Hi,

Next week I’m flying BHX-CDG-NRT with AF (C/Z) and NRT-AMS-BHX (Z/C) with KLM. I have no Flying Blue status as I have only just joined. I prefer window seats, and have managed to reserve these on both short haul legs, but on the NRT legs no window seats are available.

I’m just wondering if this is likely to be because:

a) They have been blocked for high status flyers and will be released later; or
b) They have all gone and I’m too late.

Any tips on the best way to bag a window seat if one becomes/is available?

TIA

It would sound unlikely that everything was taken, but you should go to checkmytrip.com and log in there and use the seat map to see exactly what has been taken and what's available.

Check it regularly before your flight if all windows are indeed full, you might get lucky. Good luck!

Window seats are not reserved to elite/elite+ pax. Anybody can pre-book them, especially in J. So, it's probably that they are all pre-booked (I noticed that you are flying next week and NRT flights are generally very busy in J). If you want to be sure, just call AF and you'll solve this in 5 minutes.

As said, no elite privilege for prebooking seats in J, so all windows that could be prebooked must have been taken - it happens a lot so near the flight, and a majority of people, like you, prefer windows. However, (1) some seats, such as exit rows cannot be prebooked, so typically, 4 new windows will become available, (2) some people may have pre-booked seats but could change their flight if their ticket is flexible, so you might get a chance if you OLCI.

Thanks for the replies - I'll keep checking on-line in case a seat becomes available, and if not try to OLCI.

Thanks for all the sound advice. I kept checking frequently throughout the week, and I managed to bag a window seat on the return flight yesterday. :)

OLCI just opened for the outbound flights tomorrow and sure enough a couple of extra rows were available and I managed to get a window seat on one of those too.:D

2. There are no window seats available in J or in F, because these seats are reserved to the huge masses of AF/KL crew, and their friends and family

:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Air France KLM : 74.5 million of passengers a year
74 320 people working for the company
770 000 tickets sold at low fare to the staff and their family (ie 1.3% of number of passengers).

770 000 tickets sold at low fare to the staff and their family (ie 1.3% of number of passengers). But undoubtedly a far greater percentage of WBC pax!
