in Switzerland on all public transportations (except on flights), grandparents (per couple of grandparents) can buy, for Swiss Francs 50 only per grandchild, a travel card good for 12 consecutive months, allowing the grandchild (up to and including age 16) to travel free in company of anyone of the 2 grandparents.

I guess I need to see if I can get some grandchildren. ;)

I have the grandchildren but they don't get to go to Switzerland yet! No nice deals like that that I know of in the US for transportation. We do a grandchild trip almost every year so that would be nice.

Here's the best deal I know of if you like aquariums: The Monterey Aquarium has a membership that allows a couple to bring any number of grandchildren under 18 as many times as they want. The kids don't even have to be with you.

Another possibility for grandchild discounts. At one time you could get a membership in a children's museum (San Jose has one of the best) and it would allow free grandchildren AND a reciprocal agreement with a number of other children's museums in the country. We used our pass to have family gatherings all over CA one year. And we took a grandchild free to the Children's Museum in St. Paul, MN. I see now you must buy the $150 Explorer's package to get the reciprocal advantage. As usual, diluted over time. When your great day comes, Punki, there is a Grandparent package at Seattle's Children's Museum - all grandchildren and reciprocal benefits with museums in the NW for 2 for 1 tickets. Guess you get to pay when you come to San Jose...Checking St Paul but their website is slow and weird. For $150, you get all grandkids under 18 (typical) and reciprocal privileges in 150 museums. You just have to poke around the various cities. Could pay to buy in one with reciprocal and get a better deal than buying in your own city. I tried San Diego, LA, Portland, Boston, etc and the deals differ. Many have no grandparent program at all. If that is the case in your city, you might want to approach your museum with a sample from a great program elsewhere and get them to offer the same. Most with reciprocal agreements across the country require membership in the $150/yr range. We had a great time the year Einar and I joined and saw a lot of the grandkids who had a ball checking out the different museums. CA has about 10.

This doesn't apply to grandchildren specifically, but Amtrak offers half-price tickets for children age 2-15. (under 2 is free)

A short train trip could be a good grandparent/child activity that's cheap and memorable.
