This may be worth your while in case you are visiting any of our National Parks. My mom just got hers today. Price is $10. Entrance fees to the Grand Canyon are $25. This could represent lots of savings over the years. If you are disabled, it is free.

You can obtain the information from the National Parks Website. I was not able to post the link for some reason.

This is a lifetime pass for U.S. citizens or permanent residents age 62 or over. The pass provides access to, and use of, Federal recreation sites that charge an Entrance or Standard Amenity. The pass admits the pass holder and passengers in a non-commercial vehicle at per vehicle fee areas and pass holder + 3 adults, not to exceed 4 adults, at per person fee areas (children under 16 are admitted free). The pass can only be obtained in person at the park. The Senior Pass provides a 50 percent discount on some Expanded Amenity Fees charged for facilities and services such as camping, swimming, boat launch, and specialized interpretive services. In some cases where Expanded Amenity Fees are charged, only the pass holder will be given the 50 percent price reduction. The pass is non-transferable and generally does NOT cover or reduce special recreation permit fees or fees charged by concessionaires

And the $80 regular pass is only good for one year from month of purchase.

So the $10 lifetime senior pass is truly a spectacular value. ^ (I just hope they still offer it when I reach 62. ;) )

My mother purchased her pass as soon as she was eligible twelve years ago. I benefit from her pass by getting free admission to national parks whenever we travel by car together. I do make annual donations to my favorite parks to compensate for my free visits.

Our favorite national park is Yellowstone and we try to visit at least two times each year. She has also used her pass to visit Zion NP, Bryce Canyon NP, Denali NP, Kenai Fjords NP, Grand Tetons NP, Yosemite NP, Sequoia NP, Volcanos NP, and may more. We usually fly to the nearest airport and then rent a car. We joke that our idea of camping is flying coach and staying in a motel.

I have had a National Park Pass for more than a decade. A national park ranger saw me walking and immediately gave me the disability pass. I did not even know that those passes existed.

The thing I like best about this pass is that it covers my entire family. We can fill a 15 passenger van with the children and grandchildren and everyone is admitted free. That amounts to a significant savings for the entire family.

It also means that I am invited more often, because not only can the family get into a national park for free, but they also benefit from disabled parking. It almost makes coping with "mother" worth the effort. lol
