Year after year I did profit from this program: for me much easier status qualification in the first place (for me: Gold) ,rarely also from Senior discounts (many times the AARP rate was as good/low or the AAA rate even better).

But the continuation of this program has been stopped:

Due to declining membership in Senior HHonors, Hilton HHonors has re-evaluated the Senior HHonors program and has made the decision to discontinue the program as of July 31, 2008. Please be assured that you may continue to enjoy your Senior HHonors benefits until your current annual membership expires on 04/30/2008. However, we are no longer accepting any renewals.

Continue to enjoy special rates
Once your Senior HHonors membership expires, please remember that many of our Hilton Family hotels offer discounted room rates for seniors such as AARP rates. Rates and availability vary by hotel, so please visit our website, hiltonfamily.com, or contact Hilton Reservations and Customer Care for the hotels in which you are interested.

An important note about your continued HHonors membership and status
Once your Senior HHonors membership card expires, you will receive a new Hilton HHonors membership card reflecting your tier and tier expiration date. Please note that your account number will stay the same and your point balance won’t change. If your Senior HHonors account is currently shared with your spouse, your account will be converted into an HHonors Mutual Fund account after your Senior HHonors membership expiration date, and you and your spouse will continue to share one HHonors account number.

Upon expiration of your tier status, your stays for the prior year will be reviewed and your new HHonors status will be determined based upon the standard tier earning criteria for the HHonors program. For Gold VIP status, simply complete 16 stays or 36 nights, or earn 60,000 Base points in a consecutive 12-month period. For Silver VIP status, you need only complete four stays or 10 nights per consecutive 12-month period. If you have had no stays or point-earning activity in a consecutive 12-month period, your Hilton HHonors account will be closed.

Tonight, the Park Hyatt Chicago is $375 regular or $300 senior. Sunday, the Hyatt Rosemont is $149 prevailing or $119 senior. The Hyatt.com rate is $139 but is noncancellable. The Seniors rate can be cancelled til a day in advance.

I too LOVED Hilton Senior HHonors. I was willing to pay the fee just to make Gold in 8 stays. Hilton claimed too few belonged. My experience was that almost no hotels offered Senior HHonors rates. For a while, I was happy enough because the Garden Inn near my daughters had a great half price rate for Senior HHonors, as good as Priceline. However, when that hotel started charging MORE for AARP and dropped Senior HHonors rates altogether, we no longer had much use for the program other than for status.

Has anyone but me noticed that many Hiltons seem unaware that Gold members on Priceline are not entitled to any of the goodies? We just got free breakfast at the NY Hilton and Hilton Garden Inn outside PHL.

you need the best overnight rates there, because you nearly go bankrupt when paying the train ticket to the 'Top of Europe' (the Jungfrau).

Speaking of SENIORity, what does it take to be an evangelist at Flyertalk? I see it bandied around. I am practically a charter member but have no status noted at all.

The train fare was worth it to the Jungfrau and the views magnificent everywhere.
