View Full Version : "Sharing" Charge ~~ Same as 'splitting charge' or not?

Looking at an online menu for a small local cafe. At the bottom of one page, it has this notation:

Sharing Charge $3
I've never heard it called that. I know that some places will SPLIT your entree onto two plates and charge you for that. Would you presume they mean the same thing? I wouldn't be happy if they mean there is a charge just because you are eating/sharing the dish/entree on ONE plate

They are a reasonably priced place and I was surprised to see this on their menu. We haven't eaten there before....they are so hidden that I just realized where they are located ;) Anyway, do you think it is it just a new 'term' for "splitting charge"?

Same thing, I've seen it worded that way, sometimes they call it a setup charge or a charge for sharing. I saw somebody once ask what it was for, and they were told the plates, setup, etc.

They looked and said "He can eat off the serving plate, take his plates away"

Don't know if they still had to or not.

Those are the kinds of things that if they don't show up on the bill, will generally lead to a nicer tip.
