This morning news broke that effective as of January 26th, 2008 at 1:10pm, the Zambian Government has scrapped their visa waiver program and all visitors require a visa to visit or transit through the country.

The prices for a Visitors' Visa are as follows:

British Nationals
Single Entry- GBP75.00 or USD140.00
Multiple Entry- GBP240.00 or USD442.00

USA Nationals
Standard Visa- USD135.00

Canadian Nationals
Standard Visa- USD55.00

All Other Nationals
Single Entry- USD 50.00
Double Entry- USD80.00
Multiple Entry- USD160.00

Interesting, especially given the fact that a number of southern African countries (SA, Namibia, Botswana, Angola, Zimbabwe and Zambia) are planning a single common visa system to encourage and simplify travel in so-called transfrontier conservation areas, e.g. the KaZa (Kavango Zambezi) TFCA.

Implementation is/was due by October of this year.

$135! Well, I won't be traveling there. I take it tourism is not a very important part of their economy.

We are spending ONE NIGHT in Livingstone at the Royal Livingstone prior to our Botswana safari in May. That will now be one very expensive night.:td:

I was going to get the visa's for the 4 of us for our trip in August, but decided to wait until closer to the time.................sod's law!!!
The jump from £35 to £75 is quite hefty for the 4 of us!! But i suppose with the flights and hotel booked, one must pay up!!!
