I called US Airways to make a reservation, telling the agent I would like to use a travel voucher issued by America West. The agent insisted that since I was using a America West voucher I really needed to be calling America West Airlines. ("sir: we are US Airways. Not America West")

Nice going!

Just curious: How did you respond? (Assuming you were not rendered speechless.)

Must have had someone new at the call center...

I hope you said "yes, I know you're US Airways but you always accept America West vouchers at face value... ask Doug Parker, he'll tell you...."

BTW, if anyone ever needs to know, Bed Bath and Beyond will accept current Linens and Things coupons (and vice-versa...) - you just have to ask. Just a coupon tip :)

Not sure if the 'old' America West 800 numbers still guarantee getting someone at the Tempe res center, but it is worth a shot, try: 800-2FLY-AWA, or do an online chat (I seem to always get online chat agents from Tempe).

After a moment of shocked speechlessness, I tried to explain that I thought AWA and USAirways were now the same thing. The agent tried to educate me and assure me that no no, we are US Airways, not AWA. At that point, I asked to speak to a supervisor. At first the agent protested, as she said there was nothing a supervisor could do for me as I really needed a America West supervisor. However, she relented. The supervisor did apologize and handled the transaction.

I love when people tell me there is nothing a supervisor can do for me. I always love a challenge :D

Just how far under a rock do you suppose that new agent had been for the past few years? Surely there is all manner of reminders out in Tempe that this company was quite recently HP. I remember when US purchased PI, all of the PI logo and name items in public view were absolutely destroyed (well, most of them -- I got away with some), but behind the scenes, including reservations you saw all sorts of PI pins, hats, stickers, binders, old manuals, property ID tags, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc.

This person must rank a flat zero on the awareness and attentiveness scales.

Indeed, one need only go to usairways.com to see prominently at the bottom:

US Airways and America West Airlines have merged to offer affordable airline tickets and last minute airfare to destinations all over the world.

The mind boggles.
