I'll be driving to Venice in April and parking for a couple of weeks. Has anyone had good luck with a parking type area near the city?

Parking in Venice proper at Piazzale Roma will cost 21EU/day. Parking in Mestre runs about 10EU/day. However, then you need to get back and forth from Mestre to the city.
If you have a rental car, you'll save a LOT of money by returning it in Venice rather than paying to park.

I parked at the Tronchetto, and then got a water taxi to San Marco; it is by far the best option if you're staying within the city proper.

I have parked the car at Tronchetto. It's good for a day or so .. you can lock the car which you can't at some other parking spots!
But landstuhldoc wants parking for a couple of weeks!?! That's expensive!
I would rather park the car along the railway and go with a train to Venice.
May be you get (air) ride from Ramstein to Aviano Air Base ... and leave the car in Landstuhl:D

Or even better, why not leave your car parked at Aviano?

Mestre is the better option, and most likely cheapest. Long term airport VCE parking is hit or miss.
There are only a few locations at Aviano where you can park for extended periods of time, and you need to register with the SFs (which isn't difficult but should be done).
I guess it depends what you're used to; to me, parking at the Tronchetto was cheap.

Mestre is the cheapest option. Depending on how much you plan to travel by train, you might get (if it still exists) a chilometrico ticket, I guess it has a min of 500km to a max of 2500Km and it's usually cheaper than buying single tickets.

Car parking in the Tronchetto garage cost €19 per day when I last checked in 2007. (A "day" is 3 to 24 hours.)

I consider 19 EUR to be cheap; parking in the UK is far pricier.

But there is a significant difference: in the UK you can actually use your car. In Venice a car serves no purpose so why bother to bring it?

OK, I understand, you recommend parking at Venice Tronchetto ... because parking in the UK is far pricier!?! I would call this a real great and helpful advise.

I believe you should explain mti why "...In Venice a car serves no purpose..":D

I drove to Venice whilst on a mini tour of northern Italy, hence the obvious need to have my car.
Also, in London it is not really a viable option to use one's car through the city centre; I find a good place to park and use taxis between locations.
I parked at the Tronchetto because I found it to be the least hassle, and the quickest way for me to get in and out of the city- time is more important to me than cost, and I think it is to many who travel a lot.
I think the whole ethos behind giving advice, is to give one's own opinion - what's right for one is not right for another; you, USAFAN, seem to be negligent in your comprehension of that fact.
