Hi guys,

Well looks like I need about 1800 miles for '07 to make Silver in '08 on NWA. Was looking on getting some suggestions/advice for this MR.

I have to fly PIT-EWR (r/t) in Mid/late December. But both NWA and DL get into EWR too late for me (going through DTW or MSP on NWA). I need to arrive no later than 12:00 noon, then returning it has to be a late flight.

CO has a direct flight at a good price but that gives only 1000miles. Would I better off taking CO and then doing a separate MR? Where are CO's hubs?

Thanks

Edit: would I still get 500mi/segment on CO and DL even though the flights are under 500? I know NWA does this.

FWIW; CO has some hinky stuff about only 50% for certain fare classes ~ gives me a reason to avoid 'em altogether .. ;)

Farecompare is currently showing a NWA $98 PIT-DTW-CHI (http://www.farecompare.com/search/flyertalk.html?departure=PIT&fares=Domestic&carrierFilter=NW&sortby=price&p=1) that may be just what you need. ^

500 mi min./segment on NW and DL but EQM on certain CO fares is 50%. CO hubs EWR, IAH, CLE and DL hubs ATL, CVG (in the east).

About a month ago, I found some Nov. possibilities on NW from PIT: Pricing was $199 AI LAX/PIT, $239 AI PIT/SFO with same day turns. Prices I've found today are a little higher for SFO: $245.59 all in same day turn (Orbitz 3 itin. available on 6Nov07), but cheaper to LAX: $190.60 all in same day return (nwa.com 2 itin. available on 07Nov07).

I believe OnePass is the program that only credits 50% eqm on certain fares on partner airlines.

For crediting to Worldperks, OP should be in good shape. I would recommend travelling PIT-CVG-EWR or PIT-CLE-EWR round trip for your upcoming trip. You'll get min 500 mile segments on each leg, giving you 2000 miles.

Good luck.

ETA - sorry, didn't realize you had tried DL already.

Try the CO routing I suggested. It's a 20 minute flight from PIT-CLE in a dash-8, and you'll get your status...

Thank you for the replies. I have some leads now.

Other opportunities I didn't mention, but maybe should have:

-I'm going to PVG in mid Nov for 90,000. I know this is a bit of a premium but it was worth it for me (plus I got all exit row seating). Otherwise it would have been $1000'ish. The $1K I will now have in my pocket, but I wouldn't have to worry about a MR.

-I'm going to TLV in Dec on a group trip. None of the tickets were done by me (travel agent). I just show up at EWR for a CO flight. Their site indicates that no FF miles will be given. Is this possible? What about when I return and send in my boarding passes?

Possible: yes - quite common with 'group' rates, tho good things have been known to happen
Do everything in your power to get your account number printed on those boarding passes ~ it'll make things much easier if you have to fax 'em in afterwards.

I suggesting looking at something like PIT-DTW-MEM-xxx or PIT-DTW-MSP-xxx

That would give you roughly 500 miles per leg.

To get this type of flight, look at fares by schedule, not price.

Hmmm I will give it a shot then. I know it's futile asking the travel agent, but once at the airport(s) I will give it a try.

Can you get the CO direct flight as a NW codeshare? If so, you might be able to do that, then force an extra connection on your way home. I was going to be 170 miles short of Plat, so I forced an extra connection on my next trip through STL for the same price. I could have also used BWI and saved $50, but it meant three extra hours. BNA might be another good candidate for cheap flights, at least on the leg out of DTW. You might also think about trying LGA or JFK if the times would work better.

A little addition on the CO flights. The flight from PIT-CLE will not be credited to WP. It is on Continental Connection and they are not a codeshare with Northwest. I have flown this route a couple times and they don't budge. You can get it credited on your OnePass account if you have one.
Earning/Redeeming Miles
All Continental, Continental Express and Continental Micronesia-operated flights.

Also, there are several fares on CO that only get 50% EQM. So if you have a "good rate" on CO, chances are you would only get the 50% EQM. EQM oer fares are listed below:
Elite Qualifying Fare Classes on Continental-coded, Continental-operated flights (except where noted)
Elite Qualifying Miles at 150%: J, C, Z, A, D, Y, H, R
Elite Qualifying Miles at 100%: K, M, N, B, V, U, O, F
Elite Qualifying Miles at 50%: Q, I, S, W, T, X, L
Elite Qualifying Segments: J, C, Z, A, D, Y, H, R, K, N, B, V, U, O, F

Thanks, good to know for sure. So in this case PIT-EWR-PIT would only earn 500 miles total? (250+250)

1000 miles, 500 EQM.

1000 miles, 500 EQM.

Is that true for the CO fares that only get 50% EQM?

Yes. To be more complete, for each flight segment up to 500 miles, coded and operated by CO and credited to WP, the following earnings can be expected by fare class:

J, C, Z, A, D, R: 750 miles, 750 EQM, 1 EQS
Y, H: 500 miles, 750 EQM, 1 EQS
K, N, B, V, U, O, F: 500 miles, 500 EQM, 1 EQS
M: 500 miles, 500 EQM
Q, I, S, W, T, X, L: 500 miles, 250 EQM

I think my mini-MR is a go on NWA. I'm going to book PIT-EWR-PIT a day earlier and leave a day late, and will stay at a friends house outside the city. That way I can take my time getting to/from the airport.

Going via DTW, 4 segments should equal 2000mi and I might even get upgraded :D

Thanks for all the replies.
