View Full Version : [FARE GONE] CO YYC-AUA (Aruba) $249+ (H class)

YYC-AUA
$244CAD + tax
H-class on CO (earns 150% EQM on CO/NW metal)
- Valid for travel on Saturday/Sunday only from 'gateway' (IAH, LGA, EWR)
- 7 day minimum stay (measured from departure from gateway)
- add about $110CAD for taxes depending on routing.

A very good fare for YYC-AUA, not a great mileage run fare unless shooting for EQMs. Overnight is required on the return due to schedules.

...and yeah, yeah, I know I coulda got more OP miles on other routings but the SEA option eliminated the need for an overnight hotel on the outbound and I liked the connections on the inbound. All in all for CAD356.30 including taxes for time in Aruba next June AND with the option to cancel for a 25% penalty it was too good of an offer to pass up. Never been to Aruba but they tell me it's nice...:D

Cheers! ^

Surcharges. As stated in the fare rules posted by tcook052, there is a fuel surcharge of 46.00CAD and a 15.00CAD navigation surcharge per direction. 46 + 15 + 46 + 15 just happens to be 122CAD.

You can use these flights on Expedia.ca's build your own vacation and it comes up with some pretty good pricing for air+hotel combinations

For example:

Using the above flights Jun 6-15 that Tcook posted and staying at the Westin Aruba, you can get the flights and hotel for C$744 per person (say $1488 for 2)

and the lowest prepaid non-refundable rate for hotel only on Westin.com is US$2293.60 for the same time period!

It could be that after the 12th you fall outside the typical 330 day advance booking period. So if this is still around in 10 days or so you may want to try again.

IIRC CO also had YYC-NAS a few years back for under $500 (not as good as this but still half of what everyone else wanted) and that was in the res. systems for nearly a year. So we can only hope!

Over 15K EQM on the routing I found... with 2 connections... you can press it to over 16K EQM if you are willing to suffer 3 connections. Of course, you have to overnight in EWR both directions, and suffer 7 nights in AUA. And, since the dates I picked to test this fare out were Sat/Sun both directions, I'm sure the EUA would be a shoe in on most segments.

Thanks for the advice! I did actually keep checking. Finally the next afternoon it let me put the itinerary on hold - even found coinciding reward travel NYC-YYC -although :o chickened out the next day when it came time to charge the cc.
Good news if this does last a few more days ^

Here is my breakdown for 2 pax
50,000 miles reward NYC to YYC
$99.60 reward taxes
$783.20 Calgary to Aruba
$882.80 TOTAL

Nope, I ticketed on co.com and was impressed with the user friendly features compared to Air Canada's website. I seem lately to find these deals late at night and even this TA isn't that dedicated to work that late. :p I did issues my own ticket way back when on the BA WT+ deal and nada happened but I hear what you're saying as the airlines view towards these "misprices" has changed since then.

I was stunned yesterday to discover this special still around weeks after it's appearence in these pages. I used ITA just now to price out May & June '08 dates and found CAD$407 all in still around for limited dates. Given that this seemed the classic misprice at $122++ I never would've thought it would prove to have the legs it has.

It might be worth pointing out that this MR is still available, with similar terms and conditions.

It's still pulling up through the EOS on Friday and Saturday departures, returning on Saturdays. Blackout dates include mid-summer, the Christmas season, and right now til May 18.

This is new, as when this MR was announced in October, it was only available through the end of May.

I purchased my ticket in late November for YYC-SEA-EWR-AUA leaving the end of May, returning AUA-IAH-YYC. Not the best cpm, but very decent for Calgary (and a great fare to Aruba - all other dates are in the $1200 range a.i.). My ticket was $375.00 all-in, to the penny.

I was originally going to be going with a group of friends, but their plans change and they cancelled. Each of them (3 people) recieved 100% refunds. This contradicts the fare rules, but it seems to be the case. Their cancellations were strung out over the course of 3 weeks. I'm debating on cancelling and rebooking for the winter if there are full refunds.

It can be done in 6, now that there is a Saturday option for departure.

Leave Calgary Saturday at 6 PM via SEA, EWR, arrive AUA at 2 PM Sunday.

Leave AUA Saturday afternoon, return to Calgary early Sunday morning.

6 days is good for touring all three islands - Bonaire and Curacao are a short 15 min flight away, for very reasonable prices (I found a AUA - CUR - BON - AUA ticket, 2 days in each, for $205 all-in).

Yes, but if you are flying every other day you can't really dive, as you need to wait 24 hours after diving to fly, so island hopping (by air) isn't a good way to hang out down there if you plan on diving.

FWIW, I booked this deal for travel in June '08, cancelled the trip in Jan. and got back most, though not all, of the ticket. In my case it was as per fare rules, but my total nonref was still quite low, somewhere around $50 so not a huge amount. Obviously the saying YMMV does apply in this case.

I never knew an innocent little post this morning to remind people that this was still indeed bookable would snowball out of control so quickly. The fare is gone on ITA and all booking sites now.

It took them 6 months, but they finally caught it. Amazing. I thought this one would never die.

One thing is for certain: Flyertalk has a CO lurker. There is no way this removal was a coincidence. Someone had to have seen this thread pop up today and reacted to it.

So, CO lurker, come out of hiding and let us know who you are. We promise to play nice :D

They have several. If you come to a CO DO you'll meet a few of them.

Interestingly not all the CO deals that show here disappear that quickly, so they must have some metrics for deciding which to kill.

I'm a bit angry at whatever lurker thought they'd take action on this, mainly because I was in the process of arranging anniversary vacations for my two sisters, and that I'm not tied down to leaving on my ticket when I really wanted to switch to late fall. It's rather disappointing.

It also burns too because YYC gets crap for MRs, and this was one of the truly good deals we've seen.

But Boo-hoo, right? Life goes on.

They'll likely try to issue it back to the credit card, and the credit card company will then send you a cheque (depending on their rules). If not this scenario, I'd assume CO would send you a refund cheque via snail mail, or contact you for a different CC.
